I had the honor of attending the service with several patrol members of the Troop A Honor Guard. We cannot express our sorrow for the death of a fellow trooper and for the loss to his family. As a Honor Guard leader, I have attended numerous funerals each one hits home more and more.....I can only hope that everyone in attendance takes some part of this trooper with them and stay in the fight.

Thoughts and prayers for the family, friends, Virginia Troopers and the community. There but by the grace of God go I.
Another HEROIC Law Enforcement Officer was killed because he was trying to make our streets, community, city, area, State and Nation a SAFER place for Law Abiding Citizens.
Trooper Chad Phillip Dermyer went straight to Heaven once he left his earthly body and now he lights our paths there when our final Watches are over.
To the children of Trooper Dermyer I want you to know that your dad isn't completely gone and NEVER will be as long as you and your children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren and their children, etc live on because YOU CARRY YOUR DAD IN EVERY CELL IN YOUR BODIES! Your dad watches over you from Heaven.
Trooper Dermyer your final earthly Watch is over, we have the Watch.

A true valiant hero has gone home to the loving arms of God where he will be one of God's angels to watch over and protect his beautiful family. No words can convey the sadness and grief caused by this senseless loss. My deepest sympathy goes out to his wife and his two children. Treasure the wonderful years that you were privileged to have with him. We have no control over how long we keep the ones we love. However, we can control how we remember them with the love and admiration that we keep in our hearts and our memories. May God grant you peace during this very trying time.

I had the absolute privilege to be Chad's Sergeant in the Area 46 Office (Hampton / Newport News) upon his graduation from the Virginia State Police Academy. Chad was an amazing Virginia State Police Trooper. Chad's work ethic could not be touched. I had the honor of presenting Chad with the Top Cop Award this past year, sponsored by the Hampton FOP Lodge. While I was giving my speech on why I felt Chad was the best candidate for this award, I remember looking into the audience and seeing Chad smiling at Michelle. He was so proud of this accomplishment. After the ceremony, Chad and Michelle went to dinner with me and my wife. It was an outstanding evening for us to spend time together with our families involved. I cherish the phone calls, text messages, and time I spent with this man. I had the unfortunate duty to transport Michelle to MCV Hospital on the day Chad was killed. This was the most difficult task I have done in 21 years with this job. Unit 403 to Unit 756, It's 10-4 to go off duty. God bless you Chad. We will take care of Michelle and the kids.
