Wow, it's been four years since you've passed and I miss you like crazy. I think about you every day. I enjoyed having you as well as your children in my life as I grew up and you have left a big impact on my life. Your smile always lighted up the room and when you laughed, I knew it was you even If I wasn't in the room. I MISS YOU UNCLE CHAD

I grew up in Gloucester Va, Trooper Dermyer's wife Michelle and I have been friends since 1st grade. She, as well as, Chad are just beautiful people. I'd always buy Krispy Kreme donuts for their kids school fundraisers and loved seeing them always come in to our family restaurant. My mother has been on the Sheriff's Department in Gloucester for 28 years. And I have always worried for her safety. She has the biggest heart, treats everyone equally and like her own. All I could think is what if someone took her life because of the uniform she puts on?
Unfortunately, that is what happened as everyone knows to Trooper Dermyer. It broke our entire communities heart. He was such an amazing person, husband, father and trooper. The way our community came together, the tribute and respect that was shown during his funeral procession, was the most moving show of respect I have ever seen. We all stood in the median holding our flags with our hand across our hearts. Its a tragedy to lose such a good man. My heart aches for all that have sacrificed their lives, wearing the uniform. Thank you for all you do everyday. I pray for a day where this is not a common occurrence. #Hislifemattered #Bluelivesmatter

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Chad was killed.

To the Dermyer family, fellow officers, and all who call Chad beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.

I also thank Chad for his service to our country in the Corps. He was my son's brother in green as well as blue and I bid him Semper Fi.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Trooper Dermyer gave to his community and the citizens of Virginia, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on March 31, 2016.
