Reflections for Police Officer III Allen Lee Jacobs

My Brother my heart is very heavy and almost broken but I will not break because I have to carry on for warriors like you would expect me to push on. I just got off the phone with your dispatch and they told me how i can help support your beautiful family. When we take our oath as Officers the highest honor is to leave no one behind. You are now eternally 10-42 my Brother Officer and we have your watch and family from here. Thank you for your service to our blessed country and your community. Peace be with you.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Ofc Jacobs' family, friends, and colleagues at GPD as they endure these difficult times.

It seems like only yesterday when I was attending my first of (unfortunately far too) many LEO funerals over the years, back in Sept 1996, for GPD Ofc Russ Sorrow...whose circumstances - killed at the hands of a cowardly thug with an active warrant - seems to have been tragically repeated 20 yrs later for a fellow GPD hero, Ofc Jacobs. I had only been cut loose on on the road for a few months my rookie year Upstate at the time of Russ' death, but the lessons of his sacrifice I never forgot, as they stayed with me over the course of more than a few scary moments in which my squad members and I found ourselves. In the wake of another tragedy, let us remind ourselves to watch out for each other, watch our Six, and stay safe out there, during these dangerous times in which we stand guard on The Thin Blue Line.

R.I.P., Ofc Jacobs, thank you for your tremendous life of service and your ultimate sacrifice...rest easy, and know we'll cover your watch from here.

Charleston County Sheriff's Office
