God, filled with mercy, dwelling in the heavens' heights,
bring proper rest beneath the wings of your Lord,
amid the ranks of the holy and the pure,
illuminating like the brilliance of the skies the soul of Allen Lee Jacobs who went to his eternal place of rest.
May You who are the source of mercy shelter him beneath Your wings eternally,
and bind his soul among the living, that he may rest in peace. And let us say: Amen.

To Greenville Police Officer Allen Jacobs,

I do not believe we ever met.

But I know you.

You see, we both wore the same uniform. We walked the same streets. Experienced the same highs and lows. The same friendship and joy, pain and agony, that comes with the honor of once being members of the Greenville Police Department.

Of having served alongside outstanding women and men who dedicated their lives to improving the lives of others while receiving little in return other than the personal satisfaction of having done the job right.

You see, while I have never met you, I know you.

I know the thrill of the chase, the anger of having lost and the frustration of dealing with people on their lowest days. We have seen the best and the worst that a human can do to themselves and others.

I know what you have seen.

And I want you to know that you have done all that was asked of you…and more.

You have brought honor and distinction to this job through your service. Your efforts were not in vain.

And while you are leaving behind loved ones and colleagues who mourn you, we also celebrate your life and your sacrifice as one who made a difference.

Because we know you.

So rest easy and let us carry the load that you no longer have to bear. Your family will always be protected by members of the Greenville Police Department and an extended Brotherhood in Blue. We will always be there when they need us.

Because it is what you would do.

That I know.

Anger is the only word that describes what I feel when an admirable, successful and devoted human being's life is wrongfully taken by a worthless coward. I pray for God to help Officer Jacobs' family and friends bare with the pain of his absence. I pray that people reflect on the way they raise their children and put a stop to the pathetic concept of gangs. God bless you all.
