Today I rode in the TX Wheels Of Justice “The Heroes Bike Ride”. During the ride I wore an arm band in memory of Police Officer Jacai D. Colson. I wanted to let you know that he is not forgotten. After returning to my hotel after the ride I read the account of the incident and how he was helping the other officers. He was a brave officer and put his life on the line for his fellow officers. In today’s world there’s not many people that would do that. I am so sorry for your families loss.

As I type this I remember the chaos on the radio and the cool rainy evening. I remember being at the hospital and finally finding out who was shot. My heart sank.... a feeling I think about everyday. We had a job to do even though all we wanted to do was be at the hospital. Rest easy hero. We'll take it from here. Gone but never forgotten. RIP 3693. Catch ya on the flip side.

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Jacai was killed in an accidental action shooting..

To the Colson family, fellow officers, and all who call Jacai beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace. I pray for the agency as well and emotional healing for all involved in this terrible tragedy.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Officer Colson gave to his community and the citizens of Maryland, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on March 13 2016.

Attending funerals for fallen brothers and sisters is truly an honor. Nevertheless it is a humbling, somber experience. In all the grandeur fitting for your lost loved one is the grief and sorrow of the purpose of such an event. It pains me every time I attend one. My heart goes out to both families: the family he was born into and the blue family he grew into. The pain and anguish you are suffering is one that few would understand however- your loss is felt by all. I am so very sorry I never had the honor and pleasure of meeting him. He sounds like he was an exceptional example of what we should all strive to be. Let that be his legacy. Thank you. For sharing this event with those of us who remain, awaiting our turn to join our Lord. Thoughts and prayers to you and yours from his extended family up north.

To the Family:

My sincere condolences for the lost of your Son, Law Enforcement Officer, Friend, Family Member, and Son of God. I will continue to send my prayers up for your family, that God will shower you all with comfort during this time of loss, and afterwards. Take one day at a time, continue to seek God, He will make things a little lighter each day. Know that God surrounds your family, and don't forget to reach out should you need to vent, fuss, or whatever. I'm here for you, if there is anything I can do. Love you guys.

It takes a special person to put him or herself voluntarily in harm's way. Officer Colson, and his brothers and sisters in blue, are all special people who are charged with keeping our laws enforced so that our society doesn't completely unravel. It is a tough and oftentimes thankless job and sometimes involves the ultimate sacrifice. Thank you to his family who lent him to us for the 4 years he was in uniform. I'm sure he's pulling his shift at Heaven's Gate right now.
