Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Director Carolyn Ann Cross

It took me a long time to accept your death, Carolyn. We worked together for a number of years and when I was told what happened, I just could not bring myself to accept it. As I write this reflection, I still have a heavy heart after almost 15 years. R.I.P. Carolyn, you well never be forgotten.

Dearest daughter of Deputy Director Carolyn Cross,
How very proud you must be of your mother. As she was so highly accomplished, I believe she will remain an exemplary example and inspiration of our nations finest, especially to women. It amazes me how much she's achieved and overcome throughout her precious life. Our country has lost a lot on the day she was taken. I have three sisters and a nephew who've retired from LEO, and a niece in Texas who will reach hers in two years. These next two years are scarier for us (her family), than the first two and any inbetween. You were so close... It's more than sad and angers me very much that your life was insanely stolen from you and your family. What too many in society don't realize is that, we as a nation have all lost on the day you were taken. Thank you, for your devotion to mankind, and your ultimate sacrifice in providing a safer and just environment for our society. You are forever held in the highest respect and honor for your dedication, courage and selfless service.

Carolyn,
I am so very proud to have known you and to have worked with you. I was so shocked when I heard what happened to you. I started thinking about how our careers interchanged and crossed paths in Lorton and DCDC. I remember when you were a Sergeant and Lieutenant. Visiting you at Lawrenceville Facility in Virginia and 3 years ago in your office in DC as Deputy Director. I thank you for your service to the District of Columbia and for just knowing you.
