As it was in the very beginning, we not know when we may be called before the Lord
As we suit up for our tour of duty, this is part of what goes through your mind.
As we leave for our tour of duty, we kiss our spouse & our children goodbye
Hoping for an uneventful day or night.

In such cases, an uneventful day or night, doesn't happen, a call comes in
A suspicious person, a person with a weapon, a traffic stop. Any of them could spell danger.
As you answer the call, you breathe a little deeper, you tense up a little tighter, not knowing what is about to happen.

When incident is over and all is well, you relax, you breathe normally. All is well, until the next call.
At the end of your tour, and everything is well, you get to go home, and kiss your loved ones again.

However, if a brother/sister officer is killed, for whatever reason, wherever they may serve, as officers of the law, a piece of us dies with them.

As an officer of the law, keep in mind this...in this world, we cannot take life for granted, for we are not guaranteed by Almighty God, our next breath.

Pray for our police officers every day. Most will make it home at the end of their tour of duty.

Some will not.

We will honor those, who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom and protection.

From the very first officer known to die in the line of duty in the United States (Constable Darius Quimby – Albany County, NY – 1791) to this brave officer, they all have one thing in common...they died performing the motto “To Protect and to Serve”. Let us remember them always !

God, filled with mercy, dwelling in the heavens' heights,
bring proper rest beneath the wings of your Lord,
amid the ranks of the holy and the pure,
illuminating like the brilliance of the skies the soul of Greg Barney who went to his eternal place of rest.
May You who are the source of mercy shelter him beneath Your wings eternally, and bind his soul among the living, that he may rest in peace. And let us say: Amen.
