A Prayer for Special Agent Michael A. Cinco of the U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigations:

We come here today to reverence and remember our fallen comrades who have given their lives in Afghanistan. As we recall the situation there, we are flooded, overwhelmed with a myriad of mixed emotions: anger, outrage,
frustration, bitterness, revenge, confusion and sorrow. Our initial reaction was probably a numbness of shock, a sense of disbelief. We are torn by the inner tensions of an Old Testament "eye for an eye" and a New Testament
"love your enemies." Jesus says: “Greater love than this no person has, but that life is given for others." We are a nation that believes in human rights, a nation which accepts the responsibility of being its brother's keeper, a
nation that cares enough to risk an Afghanistan. Based on these beliefs, we are a nation whose men and women respond at times with the ultimate sacrifice of laying down human life. We mourn their loss and the sorrow their loved ones now feel. We are fiercely proud of them, that in strange lands, befriended by few, assaulted by many, motivated by that sense of "greater love" they gave their lives in a cause of justice and freedom. Yes, we do reverence and remember them. Ones such as they make real the words that we are a "nation under God" striving for liberty and justice for all. May their names be boldly inscribed in the Book of Life and may their loved ones be comforted by the knowledge that they will not be forgotten and that they have not died in vain. Amen.

“Heroes Now and Then”

Some thought you did it for the paycheck,
Some thought you just had weekend fun,
There were those who didn’t take you serious,
But you trained for a job to be done.

Some of you are in the Military Reserves,
And some in the National Guard,
We never thought you’d ever leave us,
But you did when duty called.

You were heading for a possible battle,
We prayed you wouldn’t have to fight,
“Dear God, watch over our friends and loved ones”,
And help them make it through the night.

History was made in that desert sand,
It’s been awhile- a war we won,
You fought with your soul and all your heart,
It was without doubt a job well done.

Over 500,000 troops in “Desert Shield”,
But you were a few of our own,
You’ll never know how proud we were,
And so glad you made it home.

Some forty years ago there was another war,
And like now the troops returned,
But they didn’t get a heroes welcome,
They were cursed and flags were burned.




But you made us all proud to be “Americans”,
The yellow ribbons and the American flags,
From coast to coast the people cheered,
You got the welcome they never had.

So our friends be proud of what you did,
You showed the world we’re second to none,
The Iraq’s might not agree,
But to America –you are number one.

Then you were sent to Somalia Land,
A place of war, hunger and death,
You were sent to give a helping hand,
So as Americans you did your best.

Most were glad you came,
The world watched- America stood still,
It was only a peace keeping mission,
So why were Americans killed.

So let us thank the ones not coming home,
The ones who gave their lives for this land,
They died in Nam, Iraq- all over the world,
And they were proud to be “Americans”.

My condolences to Agent Cinco's family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. The suicide bomber and many others that live in this violent world match the description of the wicked found in the bible at Proverbs 4:16, 17 "for they cannot sleep unless they do what is bad, they are robbed of sleep unless they cause someone's downfall. They feed themselves with the bread of wickedness, and they drink the wine of violence." Despite many in the world are so violent, God promises that soon he will reverse the affects of death and mourning. Revelation 21:4 states "he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away." I pray God's word provide comfort to all that knew Agent Cinco.
