Thinking of you, it has been so many years since you were taken from us. I remember going to the Police Acadamy to visit you while I was stationed at Highway 1, when you saw me in the uniform you were determin to join the unit. Your determination payed off and you made it to Highway 3. I miss you cousin,RIP.

My beautiful cousin Kenton, I think of you often with joy in my heart as I know you are with our Lord. I also think about your mother, your three beautfiul sisters, your girlfriend and your friends at Hwy 3. Also, I firmly believe everyone who knew you would agree that the attached photo of you truly represents you as a human being. Personally, when I think of you I depict an image of you laughing about something funny, or talking about trucks, motorcycles and cars with a passion in your voice. That's how I remember you on any given day. Kenton, RIP, and may our Lord be with you.

Your loving cousin Mitchell

My friend Jimmy Schneider was Kenny's partner and was injured in the same incident.
Jimmy and I traveled to Washington D.C. some years ago and he placed a photo of Kenny at the Police Memorial Wall.
Jimmy has since passed away and is now riding with the Blue Knights Heaven I.

The lost of another officer days ago made me think of you my good friend .... You inspired me to be the person I am today. I know you're up in heaven on your Highway Patrol Motocycle, with your leather coat, and your boots, looking down watching over us. Kenton you will NEVER be forgotten .....

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Thinking of you and your family this day.

Kenton is my cousin, a person who I spent my younger years growing up with on Belmont Avenue, Brooklyn, N.Y. I remembered riding on the back of his bike, and following police cars as they went on emergency calls. We both had a love for helping others, and for becoming a police officer. We both had I dreams come true as I joined the New York State Police in 1981, and he joined the New York City Police Department in 1982. He actually had an opportunity to join the New York State Troopers in October of 1981, but decided to stay in NYC in order to join the New York City Police Department and work along side of our other cousin, PO Bobby Gaul. Kenton was always laughing about something, and his joyous smile and mirthful laugh was just the "thing" one needed to turn one's day around. I often think of my cousin as I continue my tour of duty. Cousin Kenton, I miss you, and so does many of your fellow officers from HWY 3 and beyond. Rest in Peace as we continue our watch.

Love your cousin Mitchell.

~~~~~The Broken Chain~~~~~
We little knew that morning that God was going to call your name.~~In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same.~~It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone; for part of us went with you, the day God called you home.~~You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide; and though we cannot see you, you are always at our side.~~Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same; but as God calls us one by one, the Chain will link again.
