Reflections for Police Officer I Garrett Preston Russell Swasey

The salvation of the righteous comes from the Lord;
he is their stronghold in time of trouble.
The Lord helps them and delivers them;
he delivers them from the wicked and saves them,
because they take refuge in him.
Psalm 37:39-40
Rest in peace brother.

God, filled with mercy, dwelling in the heavens' heights,
bring proper rest beneath the wings of your Lord,
amid the ranks of the holy and the pure,
illuminating like the brilliance of the skies the soul of Garrett Swasey who went to his eternal place of rest.
May You who are the source of mercy shelter him beneath Your wings eternally,
and bind his soul among the living, that he may rest in peace. And let us say: Amen.

I am a police survivor. My dad was http://www.odmp.org/officer/14208-chief-of-police-andrew-williams. He died when I was 10. When this happens near a holiday it seems even more intense if that is possible. I have to say though reading about the senseless murder I see many things to give Thanks for. To begin with the loss of life was so much less because of all the men and women in blue who rushed to get between innocent citizens and this horrible perpetrator. Specifically this Hero in Blue gave all to protect people he has never met.Doing the work I do at ODMP, fighting the parole of all cop killers, I find that The officers we lose tend to be the best of the best. No one in law enforcement will say there are no bad cops, there are but when we lose one of our best and brightest like this It breaks my heart. My prayers go out to this family This holiday Season. Officer Swasey I know is patrolling streets of gold with My daddy and many others. Our world is all the brighter because of having had him.

This is way too close to home for me. I lived in Colorado Springs many years, grew up there; I consider it my home. When one of my home's brave officers is struck down by a madman, it tears at my heart and leaves a hole once occupied by a good person. I grieve with this officer's family, but I also know he gave his life in the performamce of his duty -- the highest honor of all.

Rest easy, Officer Swasey. Your Brothers in Blue have got it from here.

I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me from his holy place.

I laid down and slept; I awoke, for the LORD sustained me.

I shall not be afraid of thousands of evil doers who have opposed me all around.

Arise, O LORD; save me, O my God: for You have struck all my enemies upon their cheeks; You have broken the will of the ungodly.

Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a few things; now you will be in charge over much. Enter into the joy of the LORD.

RIP Garrett, I still cannot fathom any of this. Your sister has been my best friend since first grade, I watched you grow up, you were like my little brother. You were an amazing athlete, a sweet, kind and giving soul, just an truly good person all around. Your parents and sister were proud of your every accomplishment, they loved you so much. My condolences to the entire Swasey family, you will be sorely missed my friend.
