Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Sheriff William J. Myers

I am a resident of the United Kingdom, born to Jamaican parents here 47 years ago. I have enjoyed time in the U S and Caribbean during my whole life and i am always astonished at the differences there are between policing the u.k and the americas and the Caribbean. I have just happened upon this page today and im in shock at the amount of valuable officers who have lost their lives to gunfire in the U.S this year alone.

I write this in the wake of the horrendous terror attacks in Paris last weekend. During this week, a public debate in the U.K has found that 80% of the U.K now wish that our U.K police were fully armed but our government is steadfast in its view that having armed police on our shores will be a gateway to more horrendous crimes. I agree. I don't believe that guns in the hands of anyone, except for those tackling armed conflicts in war time, help society. My heart Goes out to all of the brave U.S police officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty within these pages. I pray for a better America.

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Bill was killed.

To the Myers family, fellow officers, and all who call Bill beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace. I hope that your family knows that a nation mourned for you.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Deputy Myers gave to his community and the citizens of Florida , and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on September 22, 2015.

Jimmy, every day that passes I see and hear about the depth of the legacy you left behind of which your children, grandchildren, and family can be very proud. You set the bar high yet you prepared anyone who crossed your path to exceed the bar, including me. I love you and miss you every day. The time has come for you to rest, join Dad, and tell tales. Be with God as He is with you.

Feel His presence as God answers the prayers of many who have fallen to their knees on your behalf. Since the day of my son's death, I have carried every law enforcement officer and their family in my heart.

Every morning I go to my knees. During that time I pray:

“Lord, Be with all law enforcement officers. Keep them safe and free from harm. They are Your soldiers on the front line of the battle against evil. If one should fall this day - wrap their family in your loving arms. Surround them with Your angels, loving family, friends, neighbors and caring people to comfort them. Ease their pain. Help them to mourn well. In Jesus' name and for Your Glory, Amen.”

I have lifted you and your family to God every morning for over four years. Feel those prayers. God is with you; He knows and will ease your pain.

Rest in Trooper Myers, both you and your family will always remain in our prayers. We saw you working tirelessly to make society a better place and with tearful eyes we saw God take you to His loving home. Although you worked tirelessly God made your golden loving heart stop beating and hard working body rest. God broke our hearts to prove to both society and to us, he only takes the best.
