Rest in peace always knowing that your service and sacrifice will never, ever be forgotten by your law enforcement brethren.

I met some of your family today. I gave them a patch. They were extremely nice and I’m glad I got to meet them. They showed me and another officer some love which during these times means a lot. Thank you for service and sacrifice. I put the coin your family gave me in my coin collection. Your legacy will live on forever.

It is coming up on 3 years since you left and you are deeply missed. It seems like an eternity since I have seen your face. It is getting harder to know your face instead of just seeing photo's in my head. But I will continue to try. I have met so many people who knew you, and each story becomes a memory for me. Until we meet again brother.

John 5:28, 29 - "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out". I pray that everyone can find peace in knowing that we will see this officer as well as many others again in Paradise soon. Until then, please accept my condolences.

It's been close to two years and it still hurts just as bad as it did the day you left us. The boys and I miss you terribly and love you beyond belief. I'd do anything to have you back. Nothing is the same without you. I'm so glad to be able to call you my hero though bc that's what you are and always will be. Until we meet again I love you!

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Brett died.

To the Hawkins family, fellow deputies, and all who call Brett beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Deputy Hawkins gave to his community and the citizens of Missouri and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on September 13, 2015.

It's taken my 7 months to gather the courage to finally come to this page.Brett was my uncle, my best friend, and my hero.He was 16 when I was born and I swear it was his mission to make me his "Minni-Me" .I remember his graduation from the academy, and how my mother cried, at the time I did not understand why. On the way home I heard her tell my dad he's only 18 what if he gets hurt. He served 11 years and to me he was invincible. He would tell me in his early years on the force of the "cool" callsome he would get.but I never realized the tole it took on his body. The "cool" calls turned in to more of a disappointment of things people would do to others. Many of the stuff I was horrified to hear but he told me them with a lesson attached. Now I know the tole it took upon him. I miss our talks after he got off Duty. Or calling him when he was on duty and I thought I heard a noise outside, or when I would see something scary. He was my hero, correction he IS my hero. It took me a long time to even go back home because I would look for his patrol car. But when I did I sat by his grave for hours. I was mad not at him but at his job for taking him away from me. Then I realized how much he had d9ne for the community and why he did it. Now I am thankfully that I got the pleasure of having a true hero as my uncle.

My condolences to Deputy Hawkins family, friends, and colleagues of the Harrison County Sheriff's Office. Note God's promise concerning our dead loved ones recorded at John 5:28,29 "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out." I pray these words brings comfort concerning God's promise for our loved ones who have fallen asleep in death.

On behalf of the Westerville, Ohio Division of Police, our thoughts and prayers are with the immediate family of Deputy Sheriff Brett Hawkins and the extended law enforcement family of the Harrison County (Missouri) Sheriff's Office. Rest in Peace brother and watch over us.

I fight not for glory or fame, for they are momentary. I fight for those who can't. I fight for Justice. I fight for the oppressed and the down trodden. And if I should lose my life for these just causes, then I have no regrets, For I serve to protect the innocent. It matters not where or when, for evil knows no boundaries. Be it fire, flood, or the threat of tyranny, I will not flee. Justice is my weapon. Faith is my shield. Hope is my armor. Cry not at my passing, for it was my Honor to fight for you. Shed not tears of sorrow, But tears of joy, for now, I stand with God.

By Jon F. Hooper
