A fine deputy was lost in a city i was born and raised in. I hate the world we live in now. Where when i was growing up we treated our first resonders with admiration and respect. On January 1, 2015 i made a new years resolution. I knew i could promise to lose weight or quit smoking but knew i probably wouldn't have much luck with it. So i decided on one thing i new i could keep my word on. I was going to thank every officer, fireman or ambulance personnel i saw. My first act was the second week of January. I saw a deputy at a gas station on FM 1960. I approached the officer and asked him if he had a second. He looked to be in his mid 50's and i told him of my resolution and thanked him for putting his life on the line everyday for me, my children and my grandchildren. His eyes welled up with tears as he got out of his patrol car. When i saw his reaction i started to cry and he stood in the parking lot of that gas station consoling me. We talked for a brief moment and he thanked me again and told me that was the kindest thing anyone had done for him in years. As he got in the car his eyes welled up again. The last thing he said was "i do this job because i love it but all i want is to go home to my family each and every day. " With that he pulled out. I had been so emotional that i never got his name. How many of us can say we put our lives on the line each and everyday because of the clothes we put on. Peace, kindness and safety go with each and everyone of you. My new years resolution will be the same next year. I know there are a lot of people out there showing support but i feel comfortable knowing that i myself started this BEFORE we lost a wonderful officer...

In Honor of your Sacrifice and for your family and friends, I salute you as a HERO! May God
Give the family and friends the strength and faith to deal with this tragic loss. Words can not express my sorrow!

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.
