I never met the officer. I am a fellow rider, who will not ride on the highway as it takes just a few milliseconds to have something horrific happen.

I keep my speed to 55-60 MPH and even then I have had some really scary close calls. I cannot imagine doing it as a career day in and day out.

Approaching cars where you don't know if it is a good guy or a bad guy on top of it.

My sympathies go out to the family, I live in Indiana but I travel to Michigan quite frequently. It isn't about a ticket quota people, it is keeping people safe and bad drivers off the road.

Do everything you can for the boys and girls in blue. Without the thin blue line we would be a 3rd world country. Sure, we may claim we are a civilized country but without these courageous men and women, it would be up to us. Do you really want that?

Do something nice for peace officers. When you see them eating in a restaurant, pay their bill anonymously. If you do get stopped, be civilized, obedient, and listen to their requests.

Peace officers saved my life when I was younger and stupid and yes, I have been to jail, but because they and the system showed me the errors of my ways, I will be a grandfather soon.

God bless all of our peace officers at whatever level they serve. And don't think they have "jobs". They provide us a very valuable life saving service.

"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.

Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,

Abraham Lincoln
