Feel His presence as God answers the prayers of many who have fallen to their knees on your behalf. Since the day of my son's death, I have carried every law enforcement officer and their family in my heart.

Every morning I go to my knees. During that time I pray:

“Lord, Be with all law enforcement officers. Keep them safe and free from harm. They are Your soldiers on the front line of the battle against evil. If one should fall this day - wrap their family in your loving arms. Surround them with Your angels, loving family, friends, neighbors and caring people to comfort them. Ease their pain. Help them to mourn well. In Jesus' name and for Your Glory, Amen.”

I have lifted you and your family to God every morning for over four years. Feel those prayers. God is with you; He knows and will ease your pain.

Our faith helps us to see beyond the grave.

I've known Sgt. Vassallo for many years. She has always been a positive supporter in my law enforcement career, starting as an Explorer Scout to me working as a police officer and climbing the ranks, to me moving to FL and starting over. I will always remember everything that she has taught me. You will be missed greatly Peggy.

"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

In this time when the police are so often vilified-justly or unjustly, Officer Vassallo was a veritable saint, so caring and concerned for her community. I had met her on one of my trips back to St. Louis, but had already known of her through my late brother and all her attempts to help him with an ugly family situation in which certain members were outright exploiting our elderly father. She went the extra mile and then some to address concerns of all parties involved, dispensing valuable information. This is an incredible loss to your community, my deepest sympathies to all her family and friends. Rest if peace, Officer, you have certainly earned it.

Please accept my sincere condolences and my prayers are with her family and your entire department. I am a 37 year veteran of the South Carolina Highway Patrol and everytime I hear of another fallen police officer it tears my heart out. Again I will be praying for her family and her co-workers during this time.
