Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Carl G. Howell

I never knew you Deputy Howell, but I've driven by your memorial sign on 580 numerous times. I recently found this incredible website and wanted to look up your heroism. It's obvious from all of the reflections left for you that you are loved and missed. Thank you for your service as a Marine and as a Deputy Sheriff, you will never be forgotten. Semper Fi, and rest in peace Devildog.

Carl:
I did not know you well but saw you around here and there. Thanks for your outstanding service to the citizens of Carson City. Your sacrifice shall not be forgotten. You never faltered from duty and even when violently attacked you fought back with vigor and heroism. Thanks again for serving in both law enforcement and in the United States Marines. Your service and sacrifice is greatly appreciated by your brothers and sisters in law enforcement.

Carl, you typify your Marine heritage- Service to country and community, you will always stand as one of our very best troops. When I would need someone to stay late, come in early, take a shitty assignment or bust a door you were always the first to step up-First One In, Last Man Out. The fact that you emptied your magazine into that drug-demented POS says it all stop the threat, stop it now.
I miss you, my friend.

We went to high school together and I remember you being the guy people went to for advice. Even though I didnt get to work with you, I wore the same badge and uniform. You will never be forgotten and every time I pass my your memorial sign on the freeway it reminds me to share your legacy.

I pray that everyone can find peace in knowing that we will see this officer as well as many others again in Paradise soon. Until then, please accept my condolences.

"Despite being mortally wounded..." Deputy Howell was a strong man, a hero, who exacted vengeance on his killer. We are grateful for his service, and he will not be forgotten.

2 Timothy 3:1-5 highlights the conditions of this deteriorating world, with verse 1 stating that we are living in "critical times". Many in this evil world have no regard for human life including those that serve as LEO's. At Romans 13:1 God gave the command to "let every person be in subjection to the secular authorities, for there is no authority except by God;the existing authorities stand placed in their relative positions by God." Many in today's society fail to heed this command. I pray that all who knew Deputy Howell find comfort in Jehovah God promise for our loved ones who have fallen asleep in death. John 5:28,29 reads "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out." My condolences to Deputy Howell's family, friends, and colleagues of the Carson City Sheriff's Office.

Dearest Friend,

I've been reflecting a lot during the past almost 4 months since you've been gone and I must tell you it's made me a better person. I took a lesson from you. Tomorrow is never a guarantee and we only have today to show what we are truly made of. Carl you taught me to stand true to my beliefs and never doubt myself. Even though the end result isn't guaranteed to go our way, we have to have conviction in everything that we do. Most importantly you taught me to never take anyone for granted. It was my pleasure to work with you for a decade. God places people in your path but it's up to each one of us to decide what kind of a ride it will be. We had some great times during those 10 years. We grew up together at the Sheriff's Office. From newbees to veterans I am extremely proud and honored to know you and call you my friend. You are truly missed Carl and the void you left will never be filled. We carry you in our heart and rejoice in knowing that we got to know a true angel of God. What you did that night is something that very few could do and I know you did it without giving it a second thought! We love and miss you my friend. Till we see each other again! Watch over us Carl and help us be better people to one another!

My son was a man who anybody would be proud to call son. Thank you for all the support and prayers. I guess that the Viking and Cherokee warriors came out that morning and vanquished the evil. I am so proud to call you my son. I love you, miss you, and give you to God to protect until we see each other again.

To all who have shared their thoughts and prayers for us, I thank you all, you are all my family now, We are all a family. The loss isl great, but the lives that were saved were precious also. I cannot be more proud of Carl and his actions. His lineage is Viking and Cherokee Indian. That morning the ancient warriors came forth and again vanquished evil. May my son rest in peace in the arms of God and I will see him in the future. I am so proud to have had a son that anybody would cherish, I can hardly speak.
