Officer Nelson was a Police Cadet with the Burbank Police Department before being hired by Bakersfield. David worked in all Divisions and Bureaus within BPD, including Traffic, where I oft supervised his assignments. Even as a younger man, David was a top performer, always eager to help, gregarious, articulate, and professional. A tragic loss. My thoughts and prayers to his family.

YOU HAVE LEFT YOUR COMMUNITY A BETTER PLACE

And they would tell us:
"I have laid down my life in service to all of you.
I have been a part of that blue fabric that has held the line between your safety and your victimization. I have given my life so that others may live in peace. I have lived my life as a dedicated member of the greatest profession. There is no greater honor.

As I now become a part of the rich history of law enforcement, please remember me always for I have left behind those who loved and depended upon me.
My partners and my agency, please remember my family, their loss, and don’t let time soften your compassion for them.

You guard the gate now and hold that blue line. I will continue my watch from above."

MAY YOU REST IN PEACE AND MAY YOUR FAMILY FIND COMFORT IN THE GOOD YOU HAVE DONE HERE ON EARTH. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE TO US ALL.

The staff of the Silver State National Peace Officers Museum expresses our deepest sympathy to the Bakersfield PD family and to the family of Officer Nelson in this horrible time of loss. May you all find comfort in the great good that he did here on earth. His memory lives on in the history of law enforcement.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Matt 5:9

For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer, Romans 13:4

Rest in Peace good Servant...
