There is a line in the movie Pearl Harbor where Alec Baldwin who is playing Lt. Colonel Jimmy Doolittle says something that is very true of Reserve law enforcement officers: He is addressing the men who have volunteered to conduct the daring and famous "Doolittle Raid" on Tokyo 4 months after Pearl Harbor and says, "Nothing is stronger than the heart of a volunteer....." Especially in light of the work that a Reserve officer performs, no truer words have ever been spoken. No greater love has a man (or family of his) than he who lays down his life for his friends.

Reserve Deputy Sheriff Scott D. Conner
