Reflections for Sergeant Gregory King Moore

Today
by Brett Walton

Today an officer died and so did a mother inside
Today an officer died and so did a father inside
Today an officer died and so did a partner inside
Today an officer died and so did a child inside
Today an officer died and so did a brother
Today an officer died and so did a sister
Today an officer died and so did a friend
Today an officer died and so did a papa
Today an officer died and so did a mama
Today an officer died and so did a family inside

Today an officer died and tears fell like rain
Today an officer died and a family will never be the same
Today an officer died and the citizens lost a lion
Today an officer died and a community is left crying
Today an officer died and some do not care
Today an officer died and a new life was born
Today an officer died and a flag will fly at half staff

Today an officer died and bagpipes will play
Today an officer died and a body will lie in state
Today an officer died and words were said
Today an officer died and the status check had no reply
Today an officer died and tears were wiped away
Today an officer died and heaven made room for one more
Today an officer died and those alive bled blue
Today an officer died and nothing more needs to be said

Greg, I was lucky enough to have you as one of my roommates while we were in the Police Academy. We shared many laughs, studied together, fought together and started our careers together.

The folks next door set our alarm clocks ahead an hours and we all of course planned some fitting retaliation. The session being in the middle of the summer we came up with a great plan.

We turned their heaters on in the morning before muster and I won't forget the gleam in your eye when we even set their oven on the warm setting. That room was hot for a week I'm not sure it ever cooled down. We laughed over and over, I'm so glad that together we came up with that prank. I will always remember your good heart.

I remember you helping me correct many papers for my grammar errors which I am sure are still here as I write. I have and will continue to pray for you and your family and those who love you and worked with you. As I saw yesterday at the funeral that is quite a list of people. I will look forward to seeing you in heaven my brother and in I love you. May God's face shines upon you always and rest in the constant love of and peace he gives us. Class Four-Seven-Nine!!

A police officer should be remembered not by how he died, but how he lived! A great man has gone to secure a safe path for the rest of us to follow. Thank you to you, your family and the Coeur d'Alene Police Department. Our country is a little less safe without you. Rest in Peace Brother!

Feel His presence as God answers the prayers of many who have fallen to their knees on your behalf. Since the day of my son's death, I have carried every law enforcement officer and their family in my heart.

Every morning I go to my knees. During that time I pray:

“Lord, Be with all law enforcement officers. Keep them safe and free from harm. They are Your soldiers on the front line of the battle against evil. If one should fall this day - wrap their family in your loving arms. Surround them with Your angels, loving family, friends, neighbors and caring people to comfort them. Ease their pain. Help them to mourn well. In Jesus' name and for Your Glory, Amen.”

I have lifted you and your family to God every morning for over four years. Feel those prayers. God is with you; He knows and will ease your pain.

Our faith helps us to see beyond the grave.

I'M a fellow police officer from the State of Arkansas. I vacationed in your beautiful city last fall, and it's hard to imagine that kind of terrible violence in such a tranquil setting. I will be praying for the family, friends and fellow officers that God will help you in your time of grief. I salute you my brother for the 16 years of life you decated to the service of your community, and then finish it, with the ultimate sacrifice of your life.
