Reflections for Patrolman John J. Guthrie

Patrolman Guthrie, it has been 97 years since you were taken from us. New England law enforcement has continued to thrive, learn and become safer due to the traditions and sacrifices you, your family, and many others have made for us. Thank you for your 17 years of law enforcement service.

Ptl. Guthrie, just two nights ago I read the plaque in front of the Cambridge Police Headquarters which bears your name and the names of others who have lost their lives in the service of others. It's nice to see that your sacrifice has been noted here as well.

Our Departments, as well as MIT share the great City of Cambridge and when the worst happens, we pull together as family. I have much respect for the CPD and I'm glad we can work so well together for the common good.

Officer Guthrie, may your descendants never forget your sacrifice and may you life forever in their hearts. God Bless, Brother.

We cannot fully honor our heroes of the present without honoring our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 89th anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. We shall never forget any of our heroes.

Rest In Peace.
