For Detective Roger O'Dell:

Occasionally our duty as law-officers brings us into contact with a/or subject(s) who become our prisoner(s) as well as unlikely counter-part(s) in bringing about justice or a source of urgently-needed assistance.
Though the full facts are not clear, it appears the juveniles in our brother Roger's case attempted to bring him immediate help rather than intended harm when they could easily have just fled. It is one of those times when we can all pause to remember, without ever forfeiting caution, that our prisoner(s) potentially could also be our only source of help. The juveniles, as reported, deserve a measure-of-recognition.
We pray for Roger's family and all who care about him. May they be ready to reach-out to one another at this time.
We are proud to render Detective Roger O'Dell, a soldier-of-the-law, a final salute.

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Roger died.

To the O'Dell family, his fellow patrolmen, and all who call Roger beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace. I hope that your family knows that a nation mourned for you.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Patrolman Roger O'Dell gave to his community and the citizens of Alabama, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on January 28, 2015

Officer Roger Odell was a positive role model for me. He watched me grow up on the streets of Courtland where he served as Chief Of Police. Officer Odell believed in me. He was there for me when I first started my career in law enforcement. I thought very highly of him. He was a God fearing man. I respected his experience and admired his leadership. My policing style is a split image of how he policed. He taught me a lot. I am going to miss the times we assisted each other on calls. I am going to miss the times we prayed together. Officer Odell was a friend, a law enforcement brother, my masonic brother, and a fair officer. My prayers are with the family. We loved Officer Roger Odell, but God loved him more and call him home to his eternal resting place in heaven. Rest In Peace Officer Roger Odell the brothers in blue will take it from here.
