Reflections for Detective Carmen M. Figueroa

(I was writing before and may have erased my message or sent it unfinished.) I was saying how on 9/11 Carmen was scheduled to be at the Brooklyn District Attorney's office. She was on her way there, when she heard that a plane had crashed into one of the WTC Towers. She did not even hesitate. She drove directly to the site. She was there when the towers fell and could have easily been killed. Meanwhile, if she had just responded to the Brooklyn D.A.'s office, she would have been safe and secured and no one could have said anything to her, because that's where she was supposed to be that morning. She told me later, that when she heard on her police radio, that our Commanding Officer and other members of our squad were at the site, she wanted to be there right with them! Then she took off to the site forthwith. When I arrived at the site, Carmen was the second person I met by the plaza. We hung out together for the rest of the day, along with our MCS guys and other Police Officers and Detectives who came running to help. I miss talking with you Carmen. You know I would work with you any time. You were a great person and a great professional. You would always make me laugh, usually at myself. Until we meet again my friend, at our Final Command. Semper Fidelis!

Best Partner a Fellow Officer can ever ask for, I worked with Carmen @ BNND, what a energetic and entertaining person, all I can say, if you walked into a Room filled from Corner -to- Corner, you could hear Carmen, she was always the Center of Entertainment.

Thank you, Sweat Heart, for all the wonderful times I was able to share with you, making me smile from ear -to- ear and getting down and dirty in the Streets of NYC as the 'Narco Ranger', you were, You will forever remain in my memory and heart.

John 5:28, 29 - "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out". I pray that everyone can find peace in knowing that we will see this officer as well as many others again in Paradise soon. Until then, please accept my condolences.

Rest well my sister...you have paid the ultimate to help others during those darks days at those three sites. Many of us who were there are gone now, and some, like my self, are still here. I don't know why, but when HE calls me on judgement day I'll go and be with the all the heros who have left us through the years. May you rest in perpetual peace my angel, and watch over your loving family and all those whom you have touch. May they have solace and strength for your loss, and that mentioning your name you are truly alive.. in their hearts.

You have joined a list of people who, in spite of the dangers, both known and unknown, gave time and put out effort to help at the site of what will, God Willing remain the worst terror attack in United States history. May nothing ever surpass this terrible event and though I pray no more names are ever added to the aforementioned list you now occupy, in my gut, I know that list will grow. You are ALL heroes!

God Bless and may you FOREVER Rest in Peace.

We cannot fully honor our heroes of the present without honoring our heroes of the past, Your heroism and service is honored today, the 2nd anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. We shall never forget any of our 9/11 heroes.

Rest In Peace.
