Reflections for Police Officer August E. Labenz

Although I never got to meet August, he was my grandfather’s brother. Since researching and finding this a few years ago, every time I am at this intersection in Philadelphia, I think about him. All of my grandfather, Joseph Labenz, brothers and sisters, my Aunts and Uncles, were the most caring people you could ever meet. It makes sense that Uncle August, like so many other police officers and first responders, would put his life on the line for others.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 83rd anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

Rest In Peace.
