Sgt Martinez, I did not know you nor can I say I know where the Willacy County Sheriff's Office is located. What I can say is that for the past 4 years I have ridden in the police unity tour for brothers and sisters just like you that have paid the ultimate sacrifice, two years ago at one of our rest stops I was given a metal memoriam bracelet with your name and EOW 11/21/14, as it was given to me I knew immediately what to do with it, it made the whole ride on my wrist and once I was able to walk through the wall I sought out your wall panel and there at panel 55-W: 29 I found your name and there I placed the bracelet. Sgt Martinez are motto on the unity tour is We Ride For Those Who Died, Sgt Martinez on May 13th of 2015, I rode for you sir. You sir will never be forgotten.

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Alex was killed.

To the Martinez family, fellow deputies, and all who call Alex beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Sgt. Martinez gave to his community and the citizens of Texas, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on November 21, 2014.

Feel His presence as God answers the prayers of many who have fallen to their knees on your behalf. Since the day of my son's death, I have carried every law enforcement officer and their family in my heart.

Every morning I go to my knees. During that time I pray:

“Lord, Be with all law enforcement officers. Keep them safe and free from harm. They are your soldiers on the front line of the battle against evil. If one should fall this day - wrap their family in your loving arms. Surround them with Your angels, family and loving, caring people to comfort them. Ease their pain. Help them to mourn well. In Jesus' name, Amen”
