In a world where honor is a fleeting thing, you have preserved honor by your service as a law enforcement officer. I send my tears and respect after your needless and senseless loss. I send my prayers for strength and my promise to always do the right thing; to support law enforcement and to honor your memory and your selfless service that preserved what is good and protected good people from the wolves that would do them harm.
Godspeed.

Dear Almighty God, please strengthen us and hold us upright at this most difficult time.
Amen.

"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

I served with David in the Arizona National Guard, David and I were both Combat Medics. I remember one summer we both were assigned to drive in a Humvee from Mesa to Fort Irwin in California. We got to know each other and had a great time. As former LE Officer I would like to give my condolences to David's family and fellow officers at Chandler PD.

I prayed last night that when I visited the site this morning all officers would be safe and there would be no listed fallen officers, sadly this was not the case but I will continue to pray and believe in God's purpose, his loving kindness and his promise to mankind. We search our hearts for an answer to these senseless killings of our fellow officers and it is in the word of God where we find that answer and comfort. Continue fellow officers to pray and uphold one another in God's grace. To Officer Payne, God will grant you eternal peace for your sacrifice of giving. One final salute.

I am sorry for your loss. Drunks continue to cost communities dearly--taking away some of our most precious residents. Back when I was actively involved in helping my area as a Paramedic/Firefighter, many a night I would have to try to save people injured by the actions of a careless person driving while intoxicated. And many of those times the victim was injured beyond saving. With your death, the Chandler Police Department isn't quite as safe a place as it was before your death. Ride your motorcycle proudly with God in heaven. You are sorely missed, Officer Payne.

My depest respect and sympathy to Officer Payne's Child, extended Family, Agency and Community for this senseless tragedy & loss.
Take some comfort in knowing David's fellow officers caught his killer shortly after and who, no doubt will spend many years in Prison for their selfish and irresponsable actions.
