I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.

Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,

Abraham Lincoln

God, filled with mercy, dwelling in the heavens' heights,
bring proper rest beneath the wings of your Lord,
amid the ranks of the holy and the pure,
illuminating like the brilliance of the skies the soul of Shaun Diamond who went to his eternal place of rest.
May You who are the source of mercy shelter him beneath Your wings eternally, and bind his soul among the living, that he may rest in peace. And let us say: Amen.

This shows how dangerous our work is. I'm sure we would all take the hit for our brothers so their families wouldn't have to experience this. No greater love. Rest in peace brother.

SINCERE CONDOLENCES

A Part of America Died

Somebody killed a policeman today
And a part of America died…
A piece of our country he swore to protect
Will be buried with him at his side.
The beat that he walked was a battlefield, too,
Just as if he had gone off to war;
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half-mast
To his name they will add a gold star.
The suspect that shot him will stand up in court
With counsel demanding his rights,
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids
And spend many long, lonely nights.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today…
Maybe in your town or mine,
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors
A cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks the beat on a dark city street,
And he stands at each new rookie's side;
He answered the call… of himself gave his all,
And a part of America died…

One final salute to such a brave and courageous officer. Your sacrifice was so great, it cannot be measured to any award or accomplishment ever received by anyone. The love of an officer for his fellow man, his community, his family and friends is what drives him to face such dangers everyday. You're blessed by the spirit of goodness. May God forever hold you close and give you eternal rest. Guard Heaven's gate now my fellow officer.
