THEIR SACRIFICE IS TREMENDOUS, AND IF THEY COULD, THEY WOULD TELL US

"I have laid down my life in service to all of you.
I have been a part of the fabric that has held the line between your safety and your victimization. I have given my life so that others may live in peace. I have lived my life as a dedicated member of the greatest profession. There is no greater honor.

As I now become a part of the rich history of law enforcement, please remember me always for I have left behind those who loved and depended upon me.
My partners and my agency, please remember my family, their loss, and don’t let time soften your compassion for them.

You guard the gate now and I will continue my watch from above."

MAY YOU REST IN PEACE AND MAY YOUR FAMILY FIND COMFORT IN THE GOOD YOU HAVE DONE HERE ON EARTH. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE TO US ALL.

Deeply sorrowful, I leave a reflection about another brave soldier killed by a cowardly enemy. I hope the community will show appreciation for the sacrifice Patrolman Westerfield has made, and outrage for this violent attack. To the citizens in this community, I ask that you do your civic duty and punish this ruthless criminal for the brutal murder of this decent man...a son and father. With swift justice, sentence this murderer to the most severe penalty. Patrolman Jeffery Westerfield , may the memory of your heroism, service and sacrifice remain forever. May God bless you, your family and fellow officers in the Gary Police Department.

Anyone that would murder a policeman by ambush should automatically get the death sentence if convicted. The world seems to have lost respect for the uniform and the badge so those of us that obey the law should be thankful for anyone that will wear the uniform and keep the peace. I share birthdays with this officer except that I am older. My prayers go out to the family.

"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."
