Reflections for Sergeant Patrick Scott Johnson

I am a big fan of the program, "Alaska State Troopers'' and just now learned of Officers Rich's and Johnson's untimely deaths. I was so saddened when it was announced at the beginning of the show's airing tonight. Police officers, firefighters, and military personnel have always been my heroes. Especially coming from military and firefighter family, I never fail to pray for their safety everynight. I realize that many times, God must take the very best among our heroes away to fight the larger battle against evil in ways we do not understand. My heart goes out their children and families. I watched tonight's episode so saddened to know that these two young men had lost their lives in the line of duty. God Bless them both and may they Rest in Peace. I pray that God gives strength to the grieving families and friends. ~~~~~Mark in Texas

Scott, after almost 8 months it is still unbelievable to think of your sad murder by a coward who shot you and Gabe from behind. It can always happen to any of us t any time we put on our uniforms but we try not to curtail us from doing our duty. I remember working with you when I was posted in Cantwell and remember you were a "rookie" then but you still had that knack about you that said "I will be a great Alaska State Trooper in my days to come" and Scott, you fulfilled that and more. I hope your family is being taken care of my friend and fellow Brother in Blue. God Bless an rest n peace knowing we have not forgotten our fellow Brothers.

I thought of you yesterday... Brandy & the girls' first Thanksgiving without you. These 'first's are always hard; had too many of them myself. Post and the streets still feel empty to me. One day there would be talk of some range or K9 training and for that one quick instant I think you'll be there... then I remember.

There were so many things I still wanted to talk to you about, so many things I wanted you to train me on and share what you know; now it's just a memory of times gone.

I miss you. You were the very best of the best, I said it years ago and will always say it. As a father, a Trooper, a leader, a trainer, a friend... you were it.
Now, what has been good, right, and true for years, generations, is almost as absent as you: great memories of the past, too many questions & chaos in the present, giving us a belief it will be lost in the future. You and Gabe are needed now more than ever. I miss you my friend. Thank you for everything.

You are no longer with us, but you will never be forgotten. You were a courageous man. You were a devoted and loving husband, a caring and understanding father, and a honorable State Trooper. You told us once that some people are just plain evil. You were right.

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Scott was killed.

To the Johnson family, fellow troopers, and all who call Scott beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Sgt. Johnson gave to his community and the citizens of Alaska, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on May 1, 2014.
