Gabe, while I never knew you as an officer I do remember you and your enthusiasm while working in construction. I remember why you took that job, to pay for your education so that you could become a LEO. I remember how excited you were at the prospect and how excited I was that you had a plan. A solid plan.

Gabe,

Although we worked for the same agency towards the same mission, our paths unfortunately never crossed. I've heard nothing but good things about you, and although we never spoke to each other or handled a call together or backed each other up, you are still my brother. Our loss is beyond measure, and you will be missed by all. Rest in peace my brother...

I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.
Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,
Abraham Lincoln

Trooper Rich,

I am just a simple long time fan of the AST tv show. From the very first episode you appeared in it was clear what a very good, fair and excellent person you were. I was stunned and saddened to tears to read of your passing. For those who were gifted to have known you, their pain cannot be measured. For reasons that cannot be understood, God called you home.

Trooper Rich, thank you for your service, for your goodness, for your example and for your generosity. You will never be forgotten.

Gabe,

I remember the time there was a beaver on the highway that had traffic backed up quite a distance as it waddled its way along with foam coming out of its mouth. I tried to talk you into bean bagging it because I just watched a Youtube video of a beaver attacking someone and I didn't want us to get bit!! You thought the bean bag would make the beaver explode and I thought it would motivate it to get off the road. In the end a large stick was used to smack it in the butt which made him scamper off the road. You were a good police officer and a good troop. Your death has been hard to swallow and I hope you can rest easy knowing we have the watch. God Speed Troop.

This is just another sense less tragedy, just proving how inhumane man can be. Instead of acting with respect and admitting fault, you run like a coward and hurt innocent people in the mean time. When will we begin as decent humans to hold each other accountable? My condolences to the family. May God be with you during this time to help you find peace and comfort. Keep your eyes on God. You are in my prayers. God bless.

TO THE FAMILY, FRIENDS, AND COLLEAGUES OF ALASKA STATE POLICE, TROOPER GABRIEL RICH.

My heart is filled with great sadness at learning of the lost of your loved one and fellow Trooper.
We in the Law Enforcement Community are a family.
Though we may wear different uniforms and have different badges, shields, or stars pinned upon our chest.
Our area of enforcement may vary, we consist of many different agencies from across the nation, for we are:
Municipal Police Officers, Sheriff's Deputies, State Police Investigators, State Highway Patrol Troopers, Conservation Officers, Correctional Officers and Federal Agents just to name a few.
We patrol small towns, large cities, county roads, state highways, state parks and the United States Borders.
Whether active duty or retired, we are one family, a LAW ENFORCEMENT FAMILY, brothers and sisters bonded together by HONOR, SERVICE, and PRIDE.
Daily we honor our fallen brothers and sisters never forgetting their sacrifice.
Daily our position is clear that we will SERVE and PROTECT our communities without faltering and with no hesitation.
Daily we show pride in our chosen profession LAW ENFORCEMENT, for we willingly walk the line of GOOD over EVIL facing the unknown with COURAGE keeping our trust and faith in GOD. We know that evil roam these streets and at any moment in the course of performing our duties the ultimate sacrifice might be required of us in the service to our community, for LAW ENFORCEMENT is not a job but a calling and only a few will make the decision to commit to that calling to serve for some will give all that they have.
TROOPER RICH!
You did not die in vain
You sacrificed your life in the service to the citizens in the State of Alaska with HONOR, PRIDE, and DISTINCTION.
I'm proud to have worn the uniform of a Law Enforcement Officer like you did.
I'm proud to have pinned the badge upon my chest like you did.
I'm proud to have SERVED and PROTECTED my community as you did.
I'm proud to call you my BROTHER!
I commend you my fallen brother for making the ultimate sacrifice in the performance of your duty.
For you left us doing what you chose to do.
Performing a job you were trained to do.
Upholding the oath you swore to do.
Most importantly doing what you loved to do.............SERVING
and PROTECTING your community with HONOR and PRIDE making a better and safer place for us all.
FINAL CALL
