I'm not a law enforcement officer but my dad is and I know how dangerous this job is. It makes me furious when I hear **** the police because half the people that say that don't have the guts that a police officer does. I'm very sad to see we lost another hero. God bless the family of this man

For Officer David W. Smith:

Law-officers throughout the US are dispatched to conflicts at homes and businesses each day with the expectation that matters will be settled peaceably and without unnecessary arrest, if possible. Each of these incidents has the potential for sudden attack on the responding officer. Incidents such as this one, involving our brother Dave, clearly sends the message that no law-officer is safe from an attack resulting in death or serious injury. We regret that Dave would be the next law-officer to die a the hands of a vicious killer. We are thankful for the response of his fellow law-officer and his success at not becoming a second victim. We will back-up our fellow law-officers always - and forever.
We pray for Dave's family, friends, co-workers and all who care about him. May they be ready to reach-out to one anther in the days ahead.
We are proud to render Officer David L. Smith, a soldier-of-the-law, a final salute.

My thanks to the officer who ended the killing spree which that murderer seemed intent on. That officer may have saved many lives by his actions.

Officer Smith, you didn't even have a chance but your 18 1/2 years of service to the people of Johnson City is something your family can be proud of. It's no consolation but knowing how many people you helped be it in large way or as simple as giving directions should bring some comfort to those you have left behind.

You have physically been tragically and needlessly ripped from those who know and love you best, so long as they keep you in their hearts and minds, you will never truly be gone.

God Bless and may you forever, Rest in Peace, Brother.

I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.

Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,

Abraham Lincoln

Officer Smith,

Rest well in the arms of the Lord.

To Your Family,

Feel His presence as God answers the prayers of many who have fallen to their knees on your behalf. Since the day of my son's death, I have carried every law enforcement officer and their family in my heart.

Every morning I go to my knees. During that time I pray, “Lord, Be with all law enforcement officers. Keep them safe and free from harm. They are your soldiers on the front line of the battle against evil. If one should fall this day - wrap their family in your loving arms. Surround them with Your angels, family and loving, caring people to comfort them. Ease their pain. Help them to mourn well. In Jesus' name, Amen”

I have lifted you and your family to God every morning for the past three years. Feel those prayers. God is with you, He knows and will ease your pain.
