He went to work that day and did not know
This shift he served would bring such sorrow
This call to duty would be his last
His time on earth is now his past
God set this day as his time to go
Rest in peace Deputy Del Fiorentino, now a hero
He gave the ultimate sacrifice
With integrity and pride he paid the price
His family, friends and colleagues will mourn
As an angel in heaven he is now reborn
His golden heart stopped beating
Hardworking hands at rest
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the very best.

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Ricky was killed.

To the Del Fiorentino family, fellow deputies, and all who call Ricky beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Deputy Del Fiorentino gave to his community and the citizens of California, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on March 19, 2014.

Ricky, you were such a good, good person. When my abusive ex came into town, you helped me and my little boy remain safe. You were a good friend and fellow officer to my new husband. No one was a better ambassador for law enforcement and Fort Bragg in general than you.

You are sorely missed.

I'm so very sorry Brother, that you did not even have a chance to make it a fair fight, but you made it so the next good guy could do what you couldn't. Thank you for taking up the cause every day, and fighting the good fight, your Brothers and Sisters got your back, even still. We always will.

Ricky Del Fiorentino undoubtedly passed Final Inspection with flying colors. From the comments here from friends, family, former classmates and citizens he served, it is clear that Deputy Sheriff Del Fiorentino represents the finest traditions of law enforcement, figuratively and literally.

An "off-duty" reporter who previously witnessed Ricky removing his gunbelt and diving into freezing water to rescue a drowning bridge jumper chronicles the man Ricky was. http://www.mendocinobeacon.com/localnews/ci_25415791/remembering-good-man So many people were protected and uplifted by Ricky. This fine person will never be forgotten.

Every peace officer who left the safety of Highway 101 with Ricky to protect a residential neighborhood is a hero. They knew the suspect had irrationally fired on a storekeeper with a shotgun. They didn't know the suspect hours earlier murdered an elderly friend, then carjacked to escape.

These heroes include my friend, Ft. Bragg PD Lt. John Naulty. He charged the sound of gunfire, engaging the suspect in a firefight, hoping there was a chance to save Ricky. John's police chief was right behind him.

We all train and hope to act as these men did. Fortunately for most of us, we only know what we believe we will do if found in Deputy Del Fiorentino's shoes. Please give a moment of thought and prayer for all of those affected by this fateful day.

Matthew 5:7 - 5:11
Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
