Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Sergeant Kevin Gale Stauffer, Jr.

I have counted 958 police officers shot in the head over the years and Police Officer Kevin G. Stauffer is 959. I pray for him and his family and fellow brother/sister police officers.

I believe that had Officer Stauffer and the other 958 officers had been wearing a ballistic face shield/helmet when shot, they would have survived and be alive today.
I pray that all police officers wear a ballistic face shield/helmet in any high risk shooting situation. When I was a police officer with the Cincinanti, Ohio, Police Depoartment 60-67, I lost my friend, fellow Police Officer Donald Martin, shot in the head and other parts of his body checking on a suspect in a used car lot.

I am crushed by the horrible news that Sergeant Stauffer has lost his life. He died doing the job that he and I both love. To protect and serve people is an honor and to make the ultimate sacrifice during service is meant for only a select few Heroes. I ask the Lord to watch over Kevins wife and children now and keep an eye out for the rest of us too...as we continue to stay in the fight and hold the "Thin Blue Line."

To Protect and Serve

TO PROTECT AND SERVE

Fighting the good fight while staying on the side of right,
Gale believed in justice with all of his power and might;
Protecting others was his calling, he was meant to serve.
Down the straight and narrow path, no turn, twist or curve.
Helping out those under his watch any way he could,
Knowing that behind his back – his partner firmly stood.
Praying that the Lord would protect and keep him too,
He gave his all and did what his heart lead him to do.
He was a son, brother, husband, and friend to all,
A soldier of faith whose heart was always on call.
A warrior of valor whose love knew no bounds,
That is firmly displayed by his friends all around.
A bright light was cut short on the day he left this earth,
But his friends and family certainly knew Gale’s worth.
He was a light that shone brightly as he put on his shield,
And went forth to protect those in his city and field.
He will be remembered and missed by the City of Tupelo too,
A soldier taken too soon while doing what he was supposed to do.
Protecting and serving that was his calling in this life,
Helping protect others from hurt, pain and strife.
Gale was a good man who will be remembered for years ahead,
An officer who set the example by the life he led.
May the Lord comfort you as you grieve this hero now gone,
But know that God will watch you and not leave you alone.
