I remember Couchie from basic training at Ft. Sill Oklahoma. He was the oldest but one of the strongest people there. I can still here the drill sergeant: “Couchie’s thougher than woodpecker lips”. He was some kind of hero really.

Officer Mendoza,
I just read what you wrote Jon and I want to thank you for honoring him in this year's Police Unity Ride. I have no doubt he will be there beside you the whole way. Thank you from all my family. Prrhaps one day I can thank you in person. Stay safe!

I was sitting in from of my TV watching the afternoon newscast when the news came out about Jon's accident. At the time I was being processed for LASPD and I couldn't believe the news because I knew Jon. We worked together at Mrs. Gooch's in Beverly Hills in 1999. I remember Jon as a hard worker, self driven individual. I left the store and went somewhere else, ran into him a couple of times when I visited the store. Next year I am participating in the Police Unity Tour 2017. I have chosen Jon to be the Officer I ride for. My only regret is that I could not tell him in person I became a Police Officer too, but he knows that now. Will never forget.

It has been almost three years since Jon's death. I served with Jon in the military. In the time that we served together, he became a friend and mentor. He will never be forgotten.

Jon,
I still remember the first day I saw you at the LBPD in the hallway ... with that smile of yours that was from ear to ear. Even after all the years that had passed since school, I recognized your face instantly. I'm proud and honored of the time I got to spend with you Jon! I miss you dearly and will never forget you. God bless you and RIP.

Jon,

This song and video is for you, the Ranger Warrior on this Veterans' Day weekend. There are no words to adequately express how very proud I have always been, how proud I am, and how proud I will forever be, of both the Warrior and the Peacemaker you were Jon. The stenciling "Proud American" remains on your wall, below the Flag and above the Ranger scroll. No words for how much I miss you and how much I love my son.

Caro Gio

My dearest Jon,

Yesterday, when we all released the blue balloons, in memory of our Fallen loved ones, I knew your balloon was the one that shot up, reaching highest in the clear blue sky...and then when out of seemingly nowhere, an eagle flew straight in front of the balloons, I knew that was your way of saying "Hi Mom!". I smiled through my tears for missing you my son.

Just met your Mom today ,she is struggling right now to get through the days and nights. It is hard for those of us who are left behind to understand these things . Please watch over her and the rest of your family .We talked about how a lot alike our sons are and maybe you are up there sitting on a cloud with my son...playing jokes on everyone in Heaven. ..and how you have to be special just to be in law enforcement . ..RIP Gio
