When you get an officer who works with the kids as a pal and not "Officer Friendly", this is a tool the Police do not always think of as PR for the department and city. Officer Buenting was that.

You look like a really great guy.... My condolences to your family... I really don't like to see an officer get killed in the line of duty,because they are here to protect us.(as the military is too)...but it seems like they need the protection also....I do not find it at all fair!!! I'm extremely sorry for the loss of this man,officer,friend,brother and husband .RIP

The Ride and Run to Remember, a benefit for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund is taking place this weekend in Washington DC. Several members of my department will be participating virtually here in the Kansas City area. We will each be memorializing a fallen officer with a 30 mile bicycle ride on Saturday, and a 5K run on Sunday. It would be my sincerest honor to share Jamie's name with the team before we begin the ride and tell them what little I know of his story.

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Jamie was killed.

To Officer Buenting's family, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.

To his law enforcement family, I know that you are suffering too for I know that in a small department, your fellow officers are your second family. You too are in my heart's embrace.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Officer Buenting gave to his community and the citizens of Iowa, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on September 13, 2013.

Officer Buenting,

Thank you for your service. You will be welcomed by all others who also chose to "Protect and Serve" who went before you. Rest well in the arms of God.

To Your Family,

Feel His presence as God answers the prayers of many who have fallen to their knees on your behalf. Since the day of my son's death, I have carried every law enforcement officer and their family in my heart.

Every morning I go to my knees. During that time I pray,

“Lord, Be with all law enforcement officers. Keep them safe and free from harm. They are Your soldiers on the front line of the battle against evil. If one should fall this day - wrap their family in your loving arms. Surround them with Your angels, loving family, friends, neighbors and caring people to comfort them. Ease their pain. Help them to mourn well. In Jesus' name and for Your Glory, Amen.”

I have lifted you and your family to God every morning for over two years. Feel those prayers. God is with you, He knows and will ease your pain.

I worked in the same towns as Jamie as a police officer. I attended the same high school also. It was the best and worst feeling attending his funeral. With around 1000 Officers attending and over 400 patrol units, the 28 mile procession was very humbling. We will never forget you Officer Buenting. God will hold you in his hands. Just like your daughter said at the funeral "give my daddy a special place in heaven", I will reassure that he will have that place.

The salvation of the righteous comes from the Lord;
he is their stronghold in time of trouble.
The Lord helps them and delivers them;
he delivers them from the wicked and saves them,
because they take refuge in him.
