Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Master Trooper Junius Alvin Walker

I remember Trooper Walker when he worked in 1970's in Prince William Co. He appeared to really enjoy hos job. He left the county after a short time and I never saw him again. I pass by his memorial in the I-85 rest area in Dinwiddie Co. several times a year enroute to NC and always stop to pay my respects.

This trooper pulled me over for speeding on 1-85 in late December 2011. He treated me more than fairly and it was impossible to forget him. He was a mountain of a man. I was so shocked when I read of his murder. May he RIP. I drove down I-85 yesterday for the first time since then and saw that a portion of the highway in Dinwiddie Co is dedicated to him.

I must admit i never really thought much about what our law enforcement officers go through and see on a daily basis.

Maybe it's me getting older, but i think about yall daily these days. I pray for you too.

I can say there have been two pivotal events that have changed my thinking about what troopers and deputies do.

One of those incidents is identifiable by three numbers: 9-11. I am sorry it took so long to get me to see your importance to our society.

Prior to that i could only see these nice guys (every now and again 'hassling' me about my ...speed. But they were still nice guys, even in the face of my belligerence.

After 9-11, i saw a whole different kind of person. A nation saw Courage that day. Courage that was not displayed in some far off land. Massive amounts of courage, in one day, multiple times.

These days, it takes Courage to put the uniform on and go to work, it seems. (But when i was chief-ticket-procurer of the county, i never once thought of harming an officer. Besides, i can't imagine what my Momma would have done to me. Well, i do know it would have been painful. Have things really changed that much? That's a dum question.)

Anyway.

The other event that raised my respect level for what our law enforcement members do, to the heights, occurred March 8, 2013.

When i read what happened i could not believe it. The reader may think of many senseless acts that you have heard of but this takes the cake, the whole cake and pie too.

You have to wonder why would anyone want to harm this man? ...and so close to retirement? It's baffling.

Sidenote: I never met Master Trooper Walker but there is always at least one in a neighborhood. I grew up around one such an officer of the law. Funny though, everybody told me to fear him. They didn't say respect. Looking back, respect would have been much more fitting.

And now, as a citizen of these United States i hereby give you guys permission to do whatever you have to to get home safely at the end of the shift.

I won't say goodbye Master Trooper, on account i have the feeling you went up. So,

I shall see you again.

After finding out about JA, walker, my heart felt sorrow goes out to his family, and all the friends he gained in dinwiddie county. He would often
Stop by the post office where I served as the postmaster. We would have long talks and I respected him as he did me. We often talked about retiring and going fishing. I'm really upset about the way this went down. JA,
Was always there to help and give you very good advise. He truly loved his
Job. We Often talked about how we could serve our community. He will be truly missed. And again I say to all the law enforcement officers, be careful,
And continue doing a good job.
Respectfully

I know him personally enough I can say he was like a uncle to me. My mom and him were partners for a while, then she retired. I've known him since I was a baby. My condolences go out to his family.

Some words from ABRAHAM LINCOLN. One of my favorite presidents.

"I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost. It is our hope that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion -- that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain"

He used to work with my mother in the police force. When I heard what happened that day I was so upset. But I never really remember meeting him. I was just a little baby at the time. But right then and there from now on, I will never forget him and the things he done.

Amen

First, I would like to say thank you Trooper Walker for the service to this country and giving the ultimate sacrifice. Second, I am a head football Coach at Millbrook High School in Winchester Va. We have started a new tradition at MHS. Each week the Football team will be paying tribute to a Fallen Hero. Whether that fallen hero was in the Military, Police force, EMT or Fire Fighter. This week in our "Tribute to Heroes" the Millbrook Football Team will be playing for Master Trooper Walker. Some people may say that we do this to get the kids fired up for the game, that is not the case. It is to show the players another side of life besides Winchester, Millbrook and Millbrook Football. That were are people like Trooper Walker that sacrifice their lives everyday for their safety!

Again, Thank you to Trooper Walker and his family!
