Rest in peace Officer Moon.

Officer Moon:
You did much for your community as a peace officer, having been one of the first black officers in your agency--there is no doubt your family were so proud of you and your cousin. You also served with distinction in the military with a tour in Korea as well. Thanks for your sacrifice and honoring the police profession and serving this great nation in a time of war.

To my dearest uncle and family, I must say that we are from a blood line of strong individuals who can not be broken even if individuals try. My great uncle and cousin Rev. Killian are the greatest men I know with a wealth of knowledge of history and policing. As the great niece of the family, I am the only individual who is in policing, trying to carry out the legacy of policing. I truly appreciate them both for paving the way with hopes more individuals would inquire about the history of African Americans in Athens, GA.

My brother is one year and 9 months older than me. We always did everything together. As I grew older he was very protective of me and I loved him dearly. He is truly missed.

It is a honor to be attending this memorial in honor of my grandfather, Donald Moon. Although I never met him, my family made sure I was aware of who he was and what he stood for. I am proud to honor a man who died in the line of duty and I can not wait to meet you in heaven.

There are no words to express the hurt and the loss in my heart. I was 10 years old and have lived my entire life without my father. He was and will always be "MY FATHER MY HERO".

To My Uncle,

I loved you dearly and I will always remember your smile and the encouraging words you brought with each visit. You were taken on my 12th birthday...a phone call forever etched in my mind. Others knew you as a police officer, but I knew you as a kind-hearted, loving uncle, brother, son and friend. You have been and will continue to be greatly missed. Rest in Peace, Donald.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 50th anniversary year of your death. I am priviliged to be among the first to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
