Heartfelt thanks for your demonstrated actions and willingness to stare evil in the face and declare, “Not on my watch.” You gave all so others would not have to. You lived in valor and died a hero…

You were taken from us way too soon brother. I will always remember your upbeat attitude and smile. It was awesome to see you as a young Deputy on training, eager to fight crime, develop into a great investigator. Thanks for having my back when we worked together. It was a pleasure working with you and getting to know you as a friend. May God bless you and your family. Rest in peace my brother.

“The Final Inspection”

The Deputy stood and faced his God, which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining just as brightly as his brass.

Step forward now, Deputy, how shall I deal with you?

Have you always turned the other cheek? To my church have you been true?

The Deputy squared his shoulders and said “No, Lord, I guess I ain’t,
Because those of us who carry badges, can’t always be a saint”.

I’ve had to work most Sundays, and at times my talk was rough,
And sometimes I’ve been violent, because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny, that wasn’t mine to keep…
Though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills got just to steep.

And I never passed a cry for help, though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me, I’ve wept unmanly tears.

I know I don’t deserve a place, among the people here.
They never wanted me around, except to calm their fear.

If you’ve a place for me, Lord it needn’t be grand.
I never expected or had too much, but if you don’t…. I’ll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne, where the saints had often trod.
As the Deputy waited quietly, for the judgment of his God.

Step forward now, Deputy, you’ve borne your burdens well.

Come walk a beat on Heaven’s streets, you’ve done your time in hell.

Deputy P. Zieseniss
Box Elder County Sheriff's Office, Utah

Dear Detective MacKay: Your death brings so much sadness to all of us, especially those of us who have enjoyed the safety you brought us here in Yucaipa. The coward who killed you will have to answer to God, because those of us left here have made sure he stops killing the innocent.

I am so sad for your family..but your precious wife will make sure your children know what a hero you are, as will every cop in Southern California. I pray your family is comforted knowing they will always be loved by the law enforcement family. They just need to reach out and know there are resources who are willing to help. We all owe you for your courage and your dedication.

This is too late, but know you are loved and appreciated. We will pray for you, your family and your fellow deputies at San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department. Hey, SBSO..keep showing the world that you are professionals. Hold your heads high and keep the faith!!
