Thoughts & Prayers from your colleagues across the pond in Staffordshire, England.

The Policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining as brightly as his brass.
“Step forward now, officer. How shall I deal with You?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my Church have you been true?”
The officer squared his shoulders and said,
“No, Lord, I guess I ain’t.
Cause those of us who carry badges can’t always be a saint.
But I never took a penny that wasn’t mine to keep,
Though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills just got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help, though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me, I wept unmanly tears.
I know I don’t deserve a place among the people here.
They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you’ve a place for me here, Lord, it needn’t be so grand.
I’ve never expected or had too much.
But if you don’t, I’ll understand.”
There was silence all around the throne where the saints had often trod.
As the officer waited quietly for the answer of his God.
“Step forward now, Officer, you’ve borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven’s Streets. You’ve done your time in Hell.”

Rip Brother. Rest easy knowing that your colleagues will continue your good work and attempt to keep you alive in the way they do the job.

"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

"I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be
yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom."

To the family and friends of Officer Crain and his fellow officers:

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Michael was killed. Although I am a frequent poster on this site, leaving a reflection for Michael and the other heroes killed during the attack on our law enforcement in California has been difficult because it has been so hard to comprehend someone who once wore the badge dishonoring it by targeting others who honored it.

To Officer Crain's family, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.

My son was also Michael's fellow Marine so I bid Mike semper fi and thank him also for his service to our country in the Corps.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Officer Michael Crain gave to his community and the citizens of California, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on February 7, 2013

Officer Crain,

On Wednesday, February 13, 2013, I had the honor of attending your funeral services. Having only worked with you on one or two calls in the past, I did not know you.

But listening to the words of your loved ones, I know you were a great man, a great officer, loving husband and a family man.

It was a surreal experience these past couple weeks of these events.

Thank you for your service, and I am sure you are looking down on everything and I am sure you are aware of how strong your family is right now.

Words can not express how the show of support from across the country and the community as a whole is overwhelming.

I am sorry we lost you brother, but thank you for the honor of letting me attend the celebration of your life.

I have been a Police Officer for over eleven years and I am so saddened by the loss of our fellow brothers in blue. My only hope is that through all this tragedy we may become ever stronger and united as fellow brothers and sisters in law enforcement. May God watch over us all and take care of those left behind with saddness and unanswered questions of why?
