My deepest condolences to the family, members of the department, and those served, at the loss of this officer. May faith, family, friends and time join together to ease everyone’s pain at this time of loss.

While many other career choices were certainly available, Sergeant Riggenbach chose to protect his fellow man, and for this we give everlasting thanks. As the Good Lord hath said, “Blessed are the Peacemakers.”

Thank you for your service, your convictions and moral character, as well as your devotion to duty. May you now rest in peace, knowing your fellow brothers and sisters will watch over your family and continue the Watch!

Additionally Sergeant Riggenbach , Thank you for your double commitment to your fellow man by being a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces, having served in the Navy. And thank you to your family for carrying the burden of support not only while you worked for the Chitimacha Tribal Police and the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office, but also during your Navy service. Without their support you could not have been the successful Officer and protector that you were.

It hurts every day not talking to him or even seeing him. To hear him joke around with him for him to tell me stories and to do many other fun things. I am GLAD that i knew Rick personally and that he is a wonderful person to look up to and be around. I know that he is in a better place now but what really hurts the most is that he was killed in the line of duty just 2 days before my birthday. I didn't even have the chance to say good-bye to him and to tell him that he is a wonderful a amazing person to grow up around. I really wish that he was here but he is in with the LORD now and because of it I know that he is watching over me and helping me get through things because I always remember what he told me when I was young. To be honest I wish that we would have a lot more poeople in this world that was like Rick who likes to help out their community, keep poeple safe, who is friendly, who loves to do his/her job, etc. I LOVE AN DMISS YOU VERY MUCH R.I.P. RICK YOUR BUDDY 4 EVER!

I miss him so much but he was and still my #1 hero. I have been knowing him since I was 2 years old. He has changed my life in so many ways that I thank him for doing that because if it wasn't for him I wouldn't be the better person that I am today. Yes he is gone physically but he is here in my heart. I remember so many wonderful things about him. The main thing that has made me a better person is that when I get older i will enjoy doing my work and helping my peers by becomeing a nurse. I love and miss Rick so much espcally him coming to my house and any time, day or night, just to get coffee.

Though I never knew him, he was part of my Law Enforcement family and I will mourn this deep loss the rest of my life. My heart aches with all the losses we have suffered, and continue to suffer, through the years. God is our only peace through such times & He will judge the guilty. May family & friends feel the presence of the "God of All Comfort" as they endure the distressing days ahead. I join them in their agonizing grief & remember them in my prayers.

Another senseless tragedy
Another day of grief,
Another day of praying
To help us find relief.

Relief from bitter anguish
Relief from rage so great,
Relief from lenient justice
Which continues to seal our fate.

Relief from heartache’s torment
As we continue on,
Oh, the awesome loss of brotherhood
Now that you are gone.

Though our hearts are deeply broken
And our tears forever flow,
There’s a comforting assurance
That now with God you go.

We know that you are welcome
Now at Heaven’s gate,
While meeting brothers & sisters
Who also met such fate.

The family of Law Enforcement
Knows no distance here or there,
And we recall in comfort
You await us there.

Thoughts & Prayers from your colleagues across the pond in Staffordshire, England.

The Policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining as brightly as his brass.
“Step forward now, officer. How shall I deal with You?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my Church have you been true?”
The officer squared his shoulders and said,
“No, Lord, I guess I ain’t.
Cause those of us who carry badges can’t always be a saint.
But I never took a penny that wasn’t mine to keep,
Though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills just got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help, though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me, I wept unmanly tears.
I know I don’t deserve a place among the people here.
They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you’ve a place for me here, Lord, it needn’t be so grand.
I’ve never expected or had too much.
But if you don’t, I’ll understand.”
There was silence all around the throne where the saints had often trod.
As the officer waited quietly for the answer of his God.
“Step forward now, Officer, you’ve borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven’s Streets. You’ve done your time in Hell.”

Rip Brother. Rest easy knowing that your colleagues will continue your good work and attempt to keep you alive in the way they do the job.

A PART OF AMERICA DIED.... Somebody killed a policeman today .... And a part of America died…. A piece of our country he swore to protect .... Will be buried with him at his side.... The beat that he walked was a battlefield too,.... Just as if he had gone off to war, .... Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half-mast .... To his name they will add a gold star.... The suspect that shot him will stand up in court .... With counsel demanding his rights,.... While a young widowed mother must work for her kids .... And spend many long, lonely nights... .. Yes, somebody killed a policeman today…. Maybe in your town or mine,.... While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors.... A cop put his life on the line.... Now his ghost walks the beat on a dark city street, .... And he stands at each new rookie's side; .... He answered the call… of himself gave his all,.... And a part of America died.
