"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

To the family and friends of Officer Kevin Tonn and his fellow officers:

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Kevin was tragically killed.

To Officer Tonn's family, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in the Bay Area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Kevin gave to his community and the citizens of California, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on January 15, 2013.

Kevin was a good friend and fellow firefighter during his time in Northern New York. He was always full of laughter and was well liked by everybody that he came into contact with. R.I.P. Kevin, and know that we will take it from here. 34-0-1 to 35-0-4 you accomplished your duty and you may now return to God service.

In the handfull of times that I was around Officer Tonn it was obvious that he was devoted to his job and was also very proud of his K9 partner Officer Yaro. He was always posting pictures on the K9 unit facebook page and working to raise money for the unit. In my opinion he was going above and beyond even before his ultimate sacrifice. I hope that his family feels comfort in the fact that Officer Tonn was well respected and deserving of every honor he will receive. RIP Officer Tonn and thank you for your service. Lost but never forgotten.

TO THE FAMILY, FRIENDS AND COLLEAGUES OF GALT POLICE DEPARTMENT, POLICE OFFICER KEVIN TONN.

My heart is filled with great sadness at learning of the lost of your loved one and fellow Officer.
We in the law enforcement community are a family.
Though we may wear different uniforms and have different badges, shields, or stars pinned upon our chest.
We consist of many different agencies from across the nation, for we are Municipal Police Officers, Sheriff's Deputies, State Police Investigators, State Highway Patrol Troopers, Conservation Officers, Correctional Officers and Federal Agents just to name a few.
We patrol small towns, large cities, county roads and state highways.
Whether active duty or retired, we are one family, a law enforcement family, brothers and sisters bonded together by HONOR, SERVICE and PRIDE.
Daily we honor our fallen brothers and sisters never forgetting their sacrifice.
Daily our position is clear that we will SERVE and PROTECT our communities without faltering and with no hesitation.
Daily we show pride in our chosen profession LAW ENFORCEMENT, for we willingly walk the line of GOOD over EVIL facing the unknown with COURAGE keeping our trust and faith in GOD.
We know that evil roam these streets and at any moment in the course of performing our duties the ultimate sacrifice might be required of us in the service to our community, for LAW ENFORCEMENT is not a job but a calling and only a few will make the decision to commit to that calling to serve for some will give all that they have.
I commend you my fallen brother for making the ultimate sacrifice in the performance of your duty.
For you left us doing what you chose to do.
Performing a job you were trained to do.
Upholding the oath you swore to do.
Most importantly doing what you loved to do........SERVING and PROTECTING your community with HONOR and PRIDE making a better and safer place for us all.
