So very sad to hear of such a senseless death among law enforcement. My son is on the Atchison police force, and when Sgt. Enzbrennzer passed I was grieving right along with him. I grieve with your family and friends over the loss that has happened in your town. I thank you for giving your all so we may be safe. May God be with your family ,friends, and Brother's in Blue at this terrible time. May you R.I.P.

Jeff, we honor your service to your community as a law enforcement officer and you will always be remembered and revered. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of our entire family, I wish to extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Jeff was killed in the line of duty. May his loved ones continue to be supported by their law enforcement family and other police survivors. Our family grieves with you and for you. To his family, you are in my heart's embrace today. I pray for the emotional healing for all who called Jeff beloved.

I was so saddened to learn of the loss of this young officer just starting his law enforcement career and know what a devastating blow his loss is to his family and his agency. The community too must be devastated by the loss of two heroic officers.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service Officer Atherly gave to his community and the citizens of Kansas, and the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on December 16, 2012.

His Judgment Day:
The officer stood and faced his God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shinning, Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, Officer, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek To my church have you been true?"
The officer squared his shoulder and said, "No, Lord, I guess I aint, Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was rough, And sometimes I've been violent Because the streets are tough.
But I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep.. Though I worked a lot of overtime, when the bills got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept an unmanly tear.
I know I don't deserve a place among the people here. They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't...I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne, where the saints often trod. As the officer waited quietly for the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, Officer. You've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on heaven's streets, You've done your time in hell"

The policeman stood before his God
Which must always come to pass,
He hoped his shoes were shining
Just as brightly as his brass.

“Step forward now, policeman,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek,
To my church have you been true?”

The policeman squared his shoulders and said
“No Lord, I guess I aint,
Because those who carry badges
Can’t always be a saint.”

“I’ve worked most Sundays,
And at times my talk was rough…
Sometimes I’ve been violent,
Because the streets are awful tough.”

“But I never took a penny
That wasn’t mine to keep,
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.”

“And I never passed a cry for help
Though at times I shook with fear,
And sometimes, God forgive me
I wept unmanly tears”

“I know I don’t deserve a
Place among the people here,
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear”

“If you have a place for me here Lord,
It needn’t be so grand
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don’t… I’ll understand”

There was silence all around the throne
Where saints had often trod,
As the policeman waited quietly
For the judgment of his God.

“Step forward now, policeman
You’ve borne your burdens well,
Come walk a beat on Heaven’s streets
You’ve done your time in Hell.”
