Officer Decker,

Almost eight years ago, I was a rookie cop who had just finished FTO.

I was just starting a dog watch shift when radio traffic came on LTAC-1 (emergency statewide channel in MN). Before anyone mentioned an officer being down, I knew. I could hear the pain and sense the emotion in the responding officer’s voices.

I will always remember that. I can tell you exactly what intersection I was at.

I will always remember you. I will never forget the sacrifice you made, and your family you left behind.

To your family; i’m so sorry this happened. I’m so sorry you never received the closure you deserved. Even though I never met Tom, I will continue the good fight in his honor.

I pray that everyone can find peace in knowing that we will see this officer as well as many others again in Paradise soon. Until then, please accept my condolences.

Tommy, I remember when my mom called me and told me about you. She asked me if I remember Tommy Decker....I said yes, he was my partner for a lot of activities in the academy. I remember the phone call as if it was just hours ago. I think of you often Tommy, especially because I grew up riding my bike past where it happened. I remember after your accident in Kimball, I talked to you about retiring, but you said no you loved the job too much. Every time I see a new story of an officer down I think of you. I know we didn't keep in touch to well after the academy, but your the only one I remember, because of all the stuff we did together...evidence class, defensive tactics, firearms, and driving. Tommy I hope your watching down on all of use who still wear a badge..I'm proud to know you and will never forget you.

Almost 3yrs ago I lost my partner and best friend Officer Thomas Edward Decker badge # 6402. Since then nothing has been the same, up to this day I listen to my radio in the AM thinking your are going 10-42. it's hard not to hear your stories of any of the stops that you made, The day you were taken from us both your partner then and myself have not been the same, we cope with the loss but also we know that some day we will join you and walk the beats in heaven as you are doing now. So watch over us from the heavens above as we watch over the people you left behind. You have done a job well done, it is your time to rest and we will take it from here.

Miss you my friend.

It has been almost a month since we put to rest a true, real hero, for there is no greater sacrifice that one can give for his fellow man. "He served with Valor, now he rests in glory."

Tommy - Your service and dedication to the uniform is unparalleled, your commitment to the community and those you serve is one to strive for. You served our community with Pride, Honor and Distinction. We all have the utmost respect for the service you selflessly provided to our small community without question. Your ultimate sacrifice will never be forgotten, for that we thank you and we Honor you. You may be gone but you will not be forgotten. “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send?
