DEPUTY SCHAUB, REST IN PEACE BROTHER. YOUR DEATH STRIKES A CORD WITH ME, SINCE MY DAUGHTER LIVES IN POMPANO BEACH. SHE SAYS SHE IS A FRIEND OF A FRIEND OF YOURS. WE LOST HER BROTHER, MY SON LAST YEAR. I SEE YOUR SON WORKS FOR THE SAME AGENCY. MY SON AND I BOTH WORKED FOR THE SAME DEPARTMENT. MY DAUGHTER IS ALSO A DISPATCHER FOR OUR S.O. HE HAD HIS EOW AND I RECENTLY RETIRED. GOD BLESS YOUR FAMILY AND MAY SAINT MICHAEL WATCH OVER YOUR SON ON THE JOB. I WAS ALSO AT ANOTHER BROTHER OFFICERS FUNERAL IN OHIO WHEN I GOT THE WORD OF THIS TRAGEDY.

STEP FORWARD NOW WARRIOR,
YOU'VE BORN YOUR BURDEN WELL,
WALK PEACEFULLY ON HEAVENS STREETS,
YOU'VE DONE YOUR TIME IN HELL.

I'm pretty sure it was Chris and a few of his BSO brothers that my coworker and I spoke with at a Subway about a year ago. They were telling stories that had us both laughing...seemed like really nice guys. So sad to hear about this. Rest in Peace and God Bless all those he left behind.

Chris -

It has been many years since we have seen each other, but I still remember the nights you filled in as my FTO in Area 2 and all the things you taught me on how to be a better cop. It was with a very heavy heart that I heard the news last week becuase I know how much you truly meant to those you were around every day and how much they meant to you.

Although it has been awhile, I have not forgotten what a great man, great deputy, great father and great mentor you were to not only me but many others. I know your legacy will live on in those you have worked with, the rest of the great men and women of the Broward Sheriff's Office and in your son, daughter and extended family. Your big heart and your friendship will never be forgotten. I hope that we will see each other again one day in a place better than this. Thanks again for everything...you will never be forgotten.

God speed my brother...Rest in Peace.

Chris:
You were a great man, father and Deputy Sheriff. When I received the news I rushed to the hospital and hoped for the best. I come to realize that at the end of the day we are not in charge of our life and our death.
I will remember the great times in CI in Pompano and our social outings. Heaven will never be the same may you arrive god speed. Until we meet again rest in peace.
You have done your job and we will take it from here.

“The Final Inspection”
The policeman stood and faced his God, which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shining just as brightly as his brass. “Step forward now, policeman. How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek? To my church have you been true?” The policeman squared his shoulders and said, “No Lord. I guess I ain’t. Because those who carry badges can’t always be a saint. I’ve had to work most Sundays, and at times my talk was rough… and sometimes I’ve been violent because the streets are awful tough. But I never took a penny that wasn’t mine to keep… though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills got just too steep. And I never passed a cry for help, though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I’ve wept unmanly tears. I know I don’t deserve a place among the people here. They never wanted me around except to calm their fear. If you’ve a place for me here, Lord, it needn’t be so grand. I never expected or had too much. But if you don’t…I’ll understand.” There was silence all around the throne where the saints had often trod, as the policeman waited quietly for the judgment of his God. “Step forward now, policeman. You’ve borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on heaven’s streets. You’ve done your time in hell.” –Author unknown

I had the privilege of knowing Chris as a child. We grew up together in Livingston, NJ. He was truly a brother to me in so many ways. Life separated us as we grew into adulthood but I always knew he was doing what he loved; being a protector as an officer and as a friend to me for so many years. My friendship with Chris helped shape me to who I am today. If there is any good in me, it is in part because of Chris. May God rest your soul my friend.

My heart goes out to his family and friends. We have lost a great one.
