Avenue of the Fallen

Standing at attention in their class “A“ uniforms, badges gleaming and shoes like glass, are your brothers and sisters of Law Enforcement. All of whom have previously paid the ultimate price.
Today, like many others, they welcome you to this wonderful place. As you march down the Avenue of the Fallen, all eyes focus on you as if to say its ok you’re with your eternal partners. A salute is followed and a tear can be seen on so many faces.
Welcome, you served well.
Now come join us in the ranks, another is coming home.

From one corrections family to another, my heart is sincerely broken for the loss of Sergeant Ricard. As most corrections families know, officers and line staff put their lives on the line each time they walk through the gate of their facility. There are no guarantees they will walk back out of those same gates at the end of their shift. Yet day after day, they return to their facilities to maintain the peace, protect the public, and protect each other from the worst of the worst.

My condolences to the family and friends of Sergeant Ricard, to the corrections family she worked with, and to the community who may never understand how much courage she displayed just by showing up every day. RIP, Sergeant Ricard, your watch is over.

She paid the ultimate sacrifice in a very thankless job that most of society doesn't understand. Those of us that served stand by her and her family and even though we didn't know eachother I feel deep regret knowing this was a senseless assault that could have happened to any of us inside the walls. Peace and Prayers to all of our Brothers and Sisters!
