I did not expect, after 20 years of military service that a friend from my childhood who wanted nothing more than to promote the common-sense rule-of-law, and remained in WV, dedicating his life to that end, would be killed in the line-of-duty.

When I returned to my home state, two years after his death, I moved into his area of responsibility. I was surprised at how much of an impact his approach had made in the local community. I met several people who were off of drugs, out of trouble, gainfully employed, etc., because this man invested the time into showing them how to be better. He believed in them, perhaps he was the first to do so, and they excelled. He will always be remembered fondly in Clay Co., WV and surrounding areas. Even those who ran afoul of the law regularly - they respected him.

I have a great deal of respect for Marshall. We weren't close after school - he went his way and I went mine. The state is worse for his passing, and I think that all of his old friends are too.

I pray that everyone can find peace in knowing that we will see this officer as well as many others again in Paradise soon. Until then, please accept my condolences.

Years later and I still have problems with that night. I still clinch my steering wheel when I cross the overpass that now bears your name. You were a dear friend, you never knew how much I enjoyed and needed our smoke breaks. Rest well.

I Just Miss my Best Friend, My personal Hero!! I treasure each memory we had, the laughs, disagreements/debates.....U saved me when I didn't even know I needed saving, u brought me to life & taught me to take risks once & while, to truly live life & enjoy being young while I could but most importantly u taught me to stand up for myself even when it meant facing my biggest fears, but I did & I won, & to never ever let anyone control me, "own" me or take away my voice, my happiness & courage. U renewed my faith in the world & reminded me that there were still Brave, Selfless, Humble & Honorable Men in the world !! Not a day goes by that u don't cross my mind or I I dont speak ur name.... Ull always be in my heart, on my mind...Because then & now "You're Forever My Hero, & Forever in My Heart!! Miss u with every beat of my heart... Thank you for being the most Amazingly Honest, Kind , Loyal & Courageous Man I've ever known... The Greatest Man Ive ever known!! And For Just Being You...

It is really sad to hear very sad news like this one in particular. I have a lot respect for State Troopers, especially for those working in West Virginia. I know how hard is for them to do their jobs over there. People have little respect for Law Enforcement Officers there, and Troopers have to deal with all kinds of people on a daily basis. God Bless them all.

Two very brave and courageous men have given their lives for their community. They are true heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice. I hope the community will show its outrage, as well as appreciation for the sacrifice Trooper BAILEY and his partner made. My deepest sympathies and prayers to the family, friends and brother/sister Troopers of Corporal BAILEY and Tpr. WORKMAN. May the memory of your service, heroism and sacrifice remain forever. May God bless you and your families. AC
