Deputy John Latour (Retired)
Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office

I have laid down my life in service to all of you.
I have been a part of the fabric that has held the line between your safety and your victimization.
As I now become a part of the rich history of law enforcement, please remember me always for I have left behind those who loved and depended upon me.
I have given my life so that others may live in peace.
My partners and my agency, please remember my family, their loss, and don’t let time soften your compassion for them.
You guard the gate now and I will continue my watch from above.

I'm not in law enforcement and I didn't know Deputy Mitchell. However, I am a citizen who, like most citizens, sometimes takes an officer like Deputy Mitchell for granted. I am also a mother. There aren't words to express our sadness or our gratitude to Deputy Mitchell and his family. Know that he is with God now, though we would rather have him here with us. God will give you peace and cradle him in His arms.
Rest in peace, Deputy Mitchell. God speed.

I met Josh along with another Reagan County Deputy "Sparky" at DARE school in Oklahoma City. Josh was a good man, though very blunt. I remember when he gave his final test for the class we all thought he was just going to make children cry, yet we were all laughing, because how blunt he was. Sparky explained to us thats how things are in west texas. RIP brother in blue..
