Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Kevin E. Ambrose

An ungodly crime committed by someone in our own family. Truly this is sad and disgusting.

It's been a long time since the last funerals in Springfield and I attended both. The city was in pain that week, no question. Now, after all these years of being blessed, it ends with the murder of another officer.

Officer Ambrose, you gave so many years to the City of Springfield and the news reports of very high praise from your chief. Though we shall all mourn your passing, it is those who know and love you most that hurt the most but I know in my heart you will never be far from them. My prayers are with them.

God Bless and may you Rest in Peace, Brother.

The Officer stood and faced his God Which must always come to pass...
He hoped his shoes were shining Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, you Officer, How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek? To My Church have you been true?"
The Officer squared his shoulders and Said,"No, Lord, I guess I ain't...
Because those of us who carry guns Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays And at times my talk was tough,
And sometimes I've been violent, Because the streets are awfully tough.
But, I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime When the bills got just too steep,
And I never passed a cry for help, Though at times I shook with fear,
And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place Among the people here...
They never wanted me around Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, It needn't be so grand,
I never expected or had too much, But if you don't, I'll understand."
There was a silence all around the throne Where the saints had often trod...
As the Officer waited quietly, For the judgment of his God,
"Step forward now you Officer,
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell."

As I start my work shift, it is not like every other morning. I put on my uniform today with the thoughts of a fallen brother Officer who gave his life yesterday doing only what was asked of him everyday; to protect the citizens of the community that he served. He will be missed by family, friends and his brother and sister officers. He will also be missed by the citizens of Springfield, who will have one less dedicated officer to depend on when they are in need of help by someone who was willing to give their life for them. RIP Kevin. You will never be forgotten.

"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?

To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne

For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."
