Reflections for Police Officer Kevin E. Ambrose

In Honor of your Sacrifice and for your family and friends, I salute you as a HERO! May God
Give the family and friends the strength and faith to deal with this tragic loss. Words can not express my sorrow!

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

When people brake the law, they hate the cops. When people nned them, they will respond no matter the situation. We should take a moment and Thank all police officers for the work they perform. MY HEART GOES TO THE BLOOD FAMILY OF KEVIN AMBROSE AS WELL AS THE BROTHERS OF THE FORCE.

MAY GOD HELP ALL OF THE FIRST RESPONDERS FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

For Police Officer Kevin Ambrose:

The call to respond to the scene of a person who violates the protection from abuse order demands one to be fully alert and ready for anything. But, despite such precaution the enraged lunatic that defies an official court order is usually bent upon bring harm to others and kills by surprise. If we act too quickly we are brutes and if we act to slowly we are believed by many to be uncaring or even detached. Hardly a worse scenario exists for the police officer responding to such calls. We regret that our brother Kevin's fate was to be counted among the many who have faced this situation and, bravely and fearlessly attempting to preserve lives, lost their own life - the act of a valiant and knoble law officer. And, the culprit then taking their own life afterward - the act of a pitiful and wretched coward.

We pray for Kevin's family, friends, co-workers, and all those who care about him. May they be ready to reach-out to those who care about him. We also pray for the innocent victim's involved in this incident,

We are proud to render Officer Kevin Ambrose, a soldier-of-the-law, a final salute.

I offer this to those who grieve for the loss of a good man...

Gone From My Sight

I am standing upon the seashore. A ship, at my side,
spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and starts
for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength.
I stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs like a speck
of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.

Then, someone at my side says, "There, she is gone"

Gone where?

Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast,
hull and spar as she was when she left my side.
And, she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.

Her diminished size is in me -- not in her.
And, just at the moment when someone says, "There, she is gone,"
there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices
ready to take up the glad shout, "Here she comes!"

And that is dying...

After 36 years on the street... and on a day shift, it turns to this? You were certainly a very strong willed man to stay in this business for so long, THEY could care less... WE care so much more. I check this sight often and see bad stories, this one hurts. My 14 years on the J is nothing compared to 36. But, you went while doing what you loved, in a strange way it's not a bad thing. Thank you, with the highest respect, for your service, Sir.
