Reflections for Detective Jeremy Stephen Bitner

My thoughts and prayers are with Officer Bitner's family and his Brothers and Sisters in Blue. Rest in peace.

My thoughts and prayers have, and continue to be with the family, friends and fellow officers involved in this most tragic event. For Officer Bitner's wife, words can not express the sorrow, anger and deep loss I feel at the passing of your husband . As a fellow Officer's wife, and sister you are at the forefront of my prayers today. My husband knew your husband well and my brother was on scene the night he passed. I feel a connection to you though I do not know you personally. Thank you for your husbands' service. I will not forget this tragic loss. You and your family will forever be in my prayers. May God help you find comfort and peace during this very difficult time. Rest in Peace Officer Bitner.

"The Final Inspection"

The policeman stood and faced his God, Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman. How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek? To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges, can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays, and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent, Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny, That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime, When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help, Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place Among the people here.
They never wanted me around, Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much, But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly, For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman, You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets, You've done your time in hell."

God be with you family today! RIP Officer Bitner.

Miss you so much already. Every day I expect you to jump out from behind a corner and yell “got ya”. You are such a great cop and man, this was not supposed to happen to such a great guy. I wish you could see how very much you affected everyone here, every time someone tells a story about you it ends with everyone laughing. Your sense of humor brought so much happiness’s to this place.

I wish everyone could know the “real Jeremy”, certainly not that serious looking guy in the picture. We all will get through this but Englewood will never be the same without you.

Miss you brother!

FOR A WIFE WHO HAS LOST HER HUSBAND,
WE ASK GOD TO FILL THE SPACES LEFT BEHIND.
FOR PARENTS WHO HAVE LOST THEIR SON.
MAY GOD SUSTAIN YOU, AND HOLD YOU IN HIS ARMS.
FOR SIBLINGS WHO HAVE LOST A SIBLING.
MAY GOD REMIND YOU OF THE GOOD TIMES.

FOR OFFICER'S WHO HAVE LOST A DEAR FRIEND.
MAY GOD HELP YOU PICK UP THE PIECES.
FOR CHIDREN WHO HAVE LOST THEIR HERO.
MAY GOD RESTORE BEAUTY TO YOUR HOME,
WITHOUT REPLACING HIS MEMORY.

THE BROTHERS, THE SISTERS, THE PARENTS, THE CHILDREN, THE FRIENDS.
WE HONOR THE FALLEN, AND PRAY FOR THE LIVING.
IN YOUR PAIN, AND IN YOUR SADNESS,
AND YOUR TEAR FILLED NIGHTS.
GOD PROMISES A DAY WITH NO MORE PAIN,
NO MORE SADNESS AND NO MORE TEARS.
IT’S A DAY WITHOUT MOURNING.
A DAY WHEN THE RADIANCE OF HIS SON SHINES BRIGHTER,
THAN ANY PAIN WE HAVE EXPERIENCED. AND UNTIL THAT DAY WE GATHER TOGETHER.
“JEREMY”, WE SAY THANKYOU,
BECAUSE WE CAN NEVER SAY THESE WORDS ENOUGH.
