Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Sergeant James Francis Knight

As a Union City Park employee assigned to maintaining this park, I begin each day with a silent prayer honoring the memory of each of the six officers. Then I bow three times: once before the 16 line poem; once before the right monument; once before the left monument. As the poem declares, this park with its eternal flame symbol is "hallowed" and I serve in it with this atmosphere of deep, reverential respect.
It is during this month, March, that Sgt Knight is particularly remembered and not forgotten. His life of service was not in vain and he is honored as one of Union City's Finest.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. I am privileged to be the first to pay tribute to you. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 81rst anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

. Rest In Peace.
